It's a nod to our roots and the innovative spirit of Germany-crafted in the now, made in Germany, for Europe, the world, and most importantly, for people and the economy.    For us, “Zukunft” contains everything that is today and everything that is to come!    As we enter the Quantum Age, a time when today's unsolvable problems become solvable, we invite everyone to look forward with optimism and not to fear the enormity of what's possible.    The Quantum Age has begun, and with it, the rules of what we can achieve are being rewritten. What is the potential of ion trap quantum computers for advanced business applications? A big one, as our joint workshop with the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) Centre showed.     Our colleagues Dimitris Badounas and Michael Johanning presented the technical progress of ion trap quantum technology and its practical applications.     Participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions to gain a deeper understanding of how quantum solutions can address complex challenges in various industries.     The workshop - moderated by our colleague Sriram Hariharan - highlighted the transformative potential of quantum computing for modern businesses. We are delighted with the interest shown in this important topic.     The potential of ion trap quantum computing for advanced business applications is huge - let's unlock it together. Exciting news: Our first research paper is published! 🚀    This publication marks an important step in advancing our understanding of higher-order effects in the #MAGIC interaction, which is interesting for implementing PUBOS instead of QUBOS.    In this paper - published on arXiv (link see comment) - we present a thorough discussion of the contribution of higher-order terms to the MAGIC setup, which can occur due to anharmonicities in the external potential of the ion crystal (e.g. through Coulomb repulsion) or through curvature of the applied magnetic field. These terms take the form of three-spin couplings as well as various terms coupling spins to phonons.      This achievement is a testament to the fruitful collaboration with the University of Trento and the INFN-TIFPA, Trento Institute for Fundamental Physics and Applications.    Many thanks to our co-authors and collaborators: Sebastian Nagies, Kevin T. We're happy to welcome Ana Filipa Gonçalves de Carvalho to the eleQtron team as our new Quantum Use-case Developer. Ana joins us with a strong educational background in Physics Engineering, specializing in the Physics of Information, and hands-on experience as a Quantum Application Engineer in a leading French startup. Previously, she developed photonic algorithms and expanded client bases in the quantum sector. At eleQtron, Ana is dedicated to enhancing the accessibility of trapped ions through advanced software solutions, broadening the spectrum of use-cases, and gearing them towards industry application. Since joining, Ana has immersed herself in the innovative environment at eleQtron, exploring the capabilities of our #MAGIC technology and spearheading new projects. "I am thrilled by the potential of the technology here and am eager to harness it extensively", Ana remarked about her initial observations. Ana's expertise is already proving invaluable as she pioneers software developments that bridge the gap between quantum computing technology and practical, industry-level applications. 🍕 Friday Night Done Right: Pizza night at eleQtron! 🍕 Last Friday, the eleQtron GmbH team in Siegen took a delicious break from their quantum pursuits to enjoy homemade pizza and flammkuchen, right on our office balcony! Organized by some of our enthusiastic team members, it was a delightful evening filled with tasty treats and great company. #Collaboration is key. We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our network of collaborators by partnering with d-fine, a European consulting firm focused on analytically challenging topics. #Together, we will explore the real-world applications of #quantumcomputing to solve specific, complex computational challenges. Quantum computing has the potential to offer significant advantages in solving complex computational problems, including exponential speedups. However, demonstrating mathematically guaranteed, end-to-end speedups remains a challenging endeavor. This is where our collaboration aims to contribute.   We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring and look forward to sharing our progress. We are proud to have been nominated as a candidate for the "Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2024", Germany's most prestigious award for innovations in engineering and science that lead to applications.     The nomination was made by the German Rectors' Conference. As an institution representing about 270 universities in Germany, it is at the center of German science, both basic and applied. The fact that we were nominated by this nationwide institution is a great honor in itself!    Although we didn't reach the final round, we are still proud to have been there. The nomination is a tribute to our achievement and shows the importance of #quantumcomputing for science, business and society.  And it is an incentive for us to continue working on the development of this important key technology and to help shape the #quantumage as a new era for humanity with enormous possibilities. Three teams made it through to the final round: Dr. rer. nat. Dr. Norwin von Malm, Stefan Groetsch and Dr.-Ing. Hermann Oppermann with their project “Digital light - intelligent LED technology for the world of tomorrow”, Prof. Dr. Björn Ommer and Dr. Anna Lukasson-Herzig with their project “Democratization of Generative AI - Stable Diffusion from Development to Practice” and Dr. rer. nat Konrad Schraml, Prof. Dr. Thomas Basler and Dr. rer. nat. Caspar Leendertz with their project “Power for the Energy Transition - Electrifying Large Drives with Revolutionary Energy-Saving Chips”.     Congrats to all of you!
