Duolingo is the world's most popular way to learn a language.
Info
Our mission is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. Duolingo is the most downloaded education app in the history of the App Store and in 2019 became the top-grossing education app worldwide. We set out to do something altogether different in the learning space. Learning a new language is hard; we believe it should be fun. We use bite-sized lessons that feel like playing a game to keep our learners motivated. Learning a new language can also be expensive, and because we believe it should be free, we made it so. Duolingo has been named to: BuiltIn's Best Places to Work (2023), Fast Company Best Workplaces for Innovators (2022), Fast Company 10 Most Innovative Education Company (2022), among others.

🤓 Call us nerdy but we like to poll each other at Duolingo, like a LOT. We do polls in the office, we do polls on Slack, and we be pollin’ on LinkedIn! A recent very important poll was about which hump day emoji is better: This one? 🐪 THIS one?? 🐫 Or something else entirely?! (Tell us in the comments 👇) So far the two-humped camel is winning in our internal poll, but we must know: Which is YOUR favorite??? #onlyatduolingo

🗣️👂 Why is spoken language so hard to understand in your second language? Dr. Cindy Blanco, one of our linguists at Duolingo, explains in this video. ‼️ Spoiler alert: a big one is the lack of identifiable spaces between words. For those who prefer the written version, 👇 see the blog post in the comments below. #duolingo

Irina's story motivates us to continue advancing our mission. 💚 1600 days of learning English on Duolingo is one little habit that helped Irina develop the confidence and freedom to be more independent living in the U.S. If you grew up speaking English in the U.S., it can be easy to take your native language for granted. But for millions of people around the world, access to language education is absolutely life-changing. We are so proud of you, Irina! How has learning a language (any language) made a difference in your life? Share your story below! #duolingo
1600 Days with Duolingo: How a 10-Minute Habit Changed My Life Five years ago, I made a simple decision that quietly transformed everything. I was a stay-at-home mom with young children, living in an English-speaking country. I could speak and understand everyday conversations, but my grammar and vocabulary were limited. I didn’t feel confident handling more complex situations. Whenever I needed to call a bank, an insurance company, or a hospital, I often turned to my husband or more fluent friends. If someone more experienced was nearby, I preferred they make the call or handle important errands. Even though I lived in a supportive community - where many people, including neighbors, friends, and workers from local businesses and public services spoke my native language - I wanted more than that. I wanted independence. I wanted to be free. One day, I typed “most popular English learning app” into the search bar and found Duolingo. It was simple, fun, and easy to start. I told myself I’d try just five minutes a day. But often I stayed longer - it didn’t feel like studying; it felt like a break just for me. Best of all, I felt progress right away. That tiny habit became a doorway to a new life. Soon after, I enrolled in ESL classes at NorthWest Arkansas Community College. Later, I continued at LWTech in Washington State. I started learning Spanish too, and was even able to thank Spanish-speaking guests at a school event in their own language. (They smiled warmly when I used the word compañeros instead of amigos, but appreciated the effort.) I began reading and translating children’s books with my kids, watching movies from my childhood with subtitles, and discovering the real voices of my favorite actors. Now I can understand their interviews, hear their emotions, and feel connected in a way I never could before. Over time, my circle grew - I made more English-speaking and multilingual friends. I now handle all financial, healthcare, and organizational matters on my own. I can confidently have conversations on topics I care about, from parenting to education and culture. I even gained professional experience as a project coordinator, where one of my key responsibilities was preparing reports for clients - who were highly satisfied with the quality of my work. Duolingo English lessons now feel easy for me, so I’ve added other languages. I even completed a math course and started learning piano just for fun. All of this started with a tiny habit: 10 minutes a day. Today marks 1600 days with Duolingo. That one small step gave me something priceless - freedom, confidence, and a new way of seeing the world. If you’ve been thinking about starting something new, don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start small. Even five minutes can lead to a new life. #Duolingo #LanguageLearning #ESL #PersonalGrowth #LearningEveryDay

Asmaa recently emailed us to share some exciting news: she aced her GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education)! 🥳 These are kind of like a high school diploma. She credited Duolingo as a big part of her success, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. 🥹 Learning a language is never easy, but doing it while juggling school, exams, and y’know, LIFE, takes serious determination. Swipe to read her story ➡️ By the way, if you want to share your Duolingo journey with us, drop it in the comments or email us at [email protected]! We might share your story in a future post! #onlyatduolingo

A few weeks ago, we hosted our first livestream Q+A here on LinkedIn. We thought no one would be interested. But 800 of you RSVPed, and for the ones who attended, you all stayed for the entire 45 minute long session. What?! 🤯 Since you all liked it so much, we'll do another one. BUT!!! We’d like to know: what time (in EST) works best for you to tune into a LinkedIn Live?
