- Zoomastighopora atau disebut Zooflagellata tergolong protozoa mirip hewan yaitu salah satu filum Protozoa yang memiliki alat gerak berupa bulu cambuk (flagel). Flegel berfungsi juga sebagai alat penerima rangsang dan penangkap makanan. Zooflagellata hidup bebas di air tawar, air laut, dan di tanah basah atau parasit pada hewan dan tumbuhan. Zooflagellata banyak yang hidup soliter, terikat pada suatu substrat (sesil), dan ada juga yang membentuk koloni. Zooflagellata yang hidup terapung di air, biasa dimanfaatkan sebagai makanan hewan air. Beberapa Zooflagellata bersifat dan ada pula yang memperoleh makanan nya dari tubuh inangnya. Spesies yang termasuk Zoomastigophora adalah Trypanosoma. Trypanosome hidup pada plasma darah. Genus ini umumnya menyebabkan penyakit. Trypanosoma evansi biasa menyerang hewan dan menimbulkan penyakit surra pada ternak. Hewan yang menjadi vektor penyakit ini adalah lalat tabanus.

- In some older systems of classification, Zoomastigophora is a phylum (more commonly known as zooflagellates) within the kingdom Protista. Organisms within this group have a spherical, elongated body with a single central nucleus. They are single-celled, heterotrophic eukaryotes and may form symbiotic relationships with other organisms, including Trichomonas. Some species are parasitic, causing diseases such as the African Sleeping Sickness, caused by the zooflagellate Trypanosoma brucei. Zooflagellates have one or more flagella but do not have plastids or cell walls. A few are mutualistic, such as those that live in the guts of termites and aid the bacteria present in breaking down wood. (en)
