- Turki al-Hamad (en arabe : تركي الحمد, Turki al-Ḥamad), né le 10 mars 1952 à Al-Karak (Jordanie), est un analyste politique, journaliste et romancier saoudien. Il est surtout connu pour sa trilogie sur l'adolescence de Hisham al-Abir, un jeune Saoudien, dont le premier opus, Adama, fut publié en 1998. Bien qu'interdit en Arabie saoudite, au Bahreïn et au Koweït, 20 000 exemplaires de l'édition arabe de la trilogie - appelée en arabe Atyaf al-Aziqah al-Mahjurah ("Les Fantômes de la Ruelle Déserte") - ont été vendus. Ses romans explorent les problématiques liées à la sexualité, aux mouvements politiques underground, à la vérité scientifique, au rationalisme, ainsi qu'à la liberté religieuse dans le contexte de la fin des années 1960 et du début des années 1970, une période volatile en Arabie saoudite, prise en sandwich entre la Guerre des Six Jours et la crise du pétrole de 1973. Hamad est cité sur la couverture de l'un de ses romans : « Là où je vis, il y a trois tabous : la religion, la politique et le sexe. Il est interdit d'en parler. J'écris cette trilogie pour faire bouger les choses. ». En réponse à ses travaux, quatre fatwas furent émises contre lui par les clercs du pays, et il fut désigné comme apostat dans une déclaration d'Al-Qaïda. Il continua néanmoins à vivre à Riyad, considérant les fatwas comme « une nuisance plus qu'autre chose », selon le Daily Star. (fr)

Although banned in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait, the Arabic edition of the trilogy — called in Arabic Atyaf al-Aziqah al-Mahjurah (Phantoms of the Deserted Alley) — has sold 20,000 copies. The novels explore the issues of sexuality, underground political movements, scientific truth, rationalism, and religious freedom against the backdrop of the late 1960s and early 1970s, a volatile period in Saudi Arabia, sandwiched between the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 oil crisis. Hamad is quoted on the cover of one of his novels: "Where I live there are three taboos: religion, politics and sex. It is forbidden to speak about these. I wrote this trilogy to get things moving." As a result of his work, four fatwas have been issued against him by the country's religious clerics, and he has been named as an apostate in a statement by al-Qaeda. Kiedy był dzieckiem, jego rodzina przeniosła się do Ad-Dammam we wschodniej Arabii Saudyjskiej. Studiował w Stanach Zjednoczonych, uzyskał stopień doktora w zakresie nauk politycznych na . Do 1995 roku wykładał na uczelni w Rijadzie, potem poświęcił się pisarstwu. Popularność przyniosła mu trylogia Atyaf al-Aziqah al-Mahjurah, złożona z powieści Adama, Shumaisi oraz Al-Karadib, opisująca historię młodego człowieka dorastającego w Arabii Saudyjskiej w latach 70. XX wieku. Tytułami kolejnych książek są nazwy dzielnic w miastach, gdzie przebywał bohater: Adama. Twórczość al-Hamada spowodowała, że siedmiokrotnie wygłaszano przeciw niemu fatwy. 24 grudnia 2012 roku został aresztowany na polecenie ministra spraw wewnętrznych Muhammada ibn Najifa. Wpisy pisarza na Twitterze zostały uznane za obraźliwe dla islamu. Przebywał w areszcie pół roku, został uwolniony 5 czerwca 2013. (pl)
