- Timnath-heres or Timnath-serah (Hebrew: תמנת חרס), later Thamna, was the town given by the Israelites to Joshua according to the Hebrew Bible. He requested it and the people gave it to him "at the order of the Lord". He built up the town and lived in it (Joshua 19:49–50). According to the Septuagint version of the Book of Joshua, Joshua placed there "the stone knives, with which he had circumcised the children of Israel". On his death, he was buried there (Joshua 24:30). Jewish tradition also places the tomb of Caleb there. In 2022, excavations by Israeli archaeologists were launched at Khirbet Tibnah in Samaria, a hilltop site commonly identified as biblical Timnath. (en)

Het Bijbelboek Jozua zegt dat na de verdeling van het land onder de stammen van Israël de stad Timnath-Serah op het gebergte van Efraïm aan Jozua werd gegeven. In het Bijbelboek Richteren wordt de plaats Timnath-Heres genoemd. De stad lag volgens de Bijbel op de berg Efraïm, wat zou overeenkomen met het centrale bergachtige deel van Israël tussen Bethel en de vlakte van Jizreël. Jozua zou ook begraven zijn geweest in zijn stad. Volgens de Joodse traditie zou ook Kaleb, de andere verspieder aangesteld door Mozes, die samen met Jozua terugkeerde van de verkenning van het land Kanaän hier begraven zijn. Jozua en Kaleb rapporteerden dat het land inneembaar was in tegenstelling tot de tien andere verspieders die meldden dat het een hopeloze zaak was. (nl)

Probabilmente le due denominazioni, in cui le stesse lettere dell'alfabeto ebraico compaiono in ordine inverso, sono dovute ad errori nella tradizione scritta.
