- Un Taller ferroviario es un taller dedicado a la fabricación, mantenimiento o reparación de material ferroviario, ya sea material rodante o material fijo de infraestructura ferroviaria. Un taller ferroviario puede ser una empresa pública o privada. Puede estar organizado en diferentes secciones para mantener un correcto funcionamiento, por ejemplo sección de reparaciones de motores diésel, limpieza de motores diésel, sección de electricidad, mecanizado de piezas, pinturería, chapería y alistamiento, agrupándose en diferentes edificios. - Balai yasa (disingkat: BY) adalah istilah dalam perkeretaapian Indonesia yang merujuk pada tempat yang digunakan untuk perawatan besar sarana perkeretaapian yang dimiliki oleh operator. Nama balai yasa sendiri termuat dalam UU No. 23 Tahun 2007 pasal 114 ayat (5) yang menerangkan bahwa perawatan dapat dilakukan di depot lokomotif maupun balai yasa. Istilah balai yasa diperkenalkan pertama kali pada tahun 1959 untuk Balai Yasa Yogyakarta. Balai yasa merupakan tempat untuk melakukan semiperawatan akhir (SPA) dua tahunan, pemeliharaan akhir (PA) empat tahunan, serta perbaikan dan modifikasi sarana perkeretaapian. Berbeda dengan depot lokomotif yang perawatannya dapat dilakukan harian, selama enam bulanan, ataupun selama satu tahunan. Balai yasa tidak berada di bawah daerah operasi (Daop), tetapi langsung berada di bawah kantor pusat PT Kereta Api Indonesia dan berbentuk unit pelaksana teknis (UPT). (in)
