- Fotografie ve Spojených státech se začala prakticky používat v 19. století, kdy došlo k různým pokrokům ve vynálezu fotografie, v roce 1839 byla zavedena daguerrotypie. V roce 1866 byla pořízena první barevná fotografie. Jako v mnoha zemích byl vývoj techniky, řemesla a umění fotografie v USA mimo jiné důsledkem změn technologie, zlepšování ekonomických podmínek a míry uznání fotografie jako svéprávné formy umění. V USA se nachází celá řada předních světových výrobců klasických i digitálních fotoaparátů a fotografické optiky, nespočet fotografických organizací a každoročně je udělováno několik fotografických ocenění. The earliest commercialization of photography was made in the country when Alexander Walcott and John Johnson opened the first commercial portrait gallery in 1840. In 1866, the first color photograph was taken. Only in the 1880s, would photography expand to a mass audience with the first easy-to-use, lightweight Kodak camera, issued by George Eastman and his company. (en)
