- Els instruments panerusan, també anomenats instruments elaboradors, són una secció dels instruments del gamelan, segons un criteri de classificació emprat en aquest tipus de música. Aquests s'encarreguen d'ornamentar i generar variacions sobre el (melodia principal), del qual s'encarreguen els instruments balungan. D'altra banda, l'estructura rítmica, vindria determinada pels instruments colotòmics. Sovint són els instruments més difícils de tocar del gamelan, però també són els que donen més possibilitats a la improvisació i a la creativitat de l'intèrpret. Entre els instruments panerusan s'hi inclouen:

* gambang Sovint s'inclou en aquesta llista al cantant femení perquè canta amb un estil similar a les tècniques pròpies d'aquests instruments. Atès que tots els instruments de vent, corda o percussió feta de fusta que hi ha al gamelan pertanyen a la família dels elaboradors, d'aquesta prové el timbre més diferenciat del gamelan. Les parts interpretades pels instruments panerusan són, en gran manera, fórmules melòdiques conegudes amb el nom de cengkok i sekaran. La melodia, per tant, ve determinada per la selecció de fórmules per part de l'intèrpret, d'entre totes les que té al cap, en funció del patet, l'afecte i tota la tradició que envolta una peça. (ca)
- The panerusan instruments or elaborating instruments are one of the divisions of instruments used in Indonesian gamelan. Instead of the rhythmic structure provided by the colotomic instruments, and the core melody of the balungan instruments, the panerusan instruments play variations on the balungan. They are usually the most difficult instruments to learn in the gamelan, but provide the most opportunity for improvisation and creativity in the performer. Panerusan instruments include the gendér, suling, rebab, siter/celempung, bonang, and gambang. The female singer, the pesindhen, is also often included, as she sings in a similar fashion to the instrumental techniques. As these include the only wind instruments, string instruments, and wooden percussion instruments found in the gamelan, they provide a timbre which stands out from most of the gamelan. The notes that the panerusan instruments play are largely in melodic formulas known as cengkok and sekaran. These are selected from a huge collection which every performer carries in his head, based on the patet, mood, and traditions surrounding a piece. (en)
