- Mario Sarto (13 October 1885 – 13 September 1955) was an important sculptor of religious and commemorative art, renowned for the vast statuary present in the Monumental Cemetery of Bologna. Many of his statues are also located in the main squares of Italian cities, among which Codigoro, Ferrara, Bologna, with representations of patron saints and heroic figures of the two World Wars. Grandnephew of Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, Saint Pius X, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan, then opened his own studio in Bologna, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. - Mario Sarto (Codigoro, 13 ottobre 1885 – Bologna, 13 settembre 1955) è stato uno scultore italiano, importante per la sua opera statuaria di rimembranza, di stile tra Liberty e Novecento, e noto soprattutto per l’arte sacra che figura numerosa nelle Certose dell’Emilia-Romagna, in particolare di Bologna e di Ferrara. Pronipote di Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, Papa Pio X, frequentò l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, per poi aprire il proprio studio di scultura a Bologna, ove operò per il resto della sua vita, con il supporto e la collaborazione di marmisti locali. Sue sculture appaiono in varie piazze cittadine emiliane, ove spiccano memoriali con figure di eroi militari o statue di patroni. (it)
