- Gastric pits are indentations in the stomach which denote entrances to 3-5 tubular shaped gastric glands. They are deeper in the pylorus than they are in the other parts of the stomach. The human stomach has several million of these pits which dot the surface of the lining epithelium. Surface mucous cells line the pits themselves but give way to a series of other types of cells which then line the glands themselves. (en)
- Las foveolas, fositas gástricas o fosillas gástricas en anatomía e histología, son el nombre que se les da a cada una de las profundizaciones del epitelio gástrico simple mucosecretor situadas en el tejido conjuntivo interno del estómago. El fondo de la fosita no es cerrado, sino que en él hay 4 o 5 foveolas más pequeñas, pues el epitelio se continúa hacia adentro en una glándula de la lámina propia, llamada , un tubo muy alargado de trayectoria no recta y que termina en una especie de ovillo.
