- Franz Christian Gundlach (16. července 1926 – 23. července 2021, Hamburk) byl německý fotograf, majitel galerie, sběratel, kurátor a zakladatel. V roce 2000 založil Gundlach nadaci F.C. Gundlach Foundation a od roku 2003 byl zakládajícím ředitelem Domu fotografie v Deichtorhallen v Hamburku. Gundlachovy módní fotografie z padesátých, šedesátých a sedmdesátých let, které často integrují společenské jevy a trendy vizuálního umění, se nyní (2021) nacházejí v muzeích a sbírkách. Od roku 1975 byl kurátorem mnoha fotografických výstav. Při znovuotevření Domu fotografie v dubnu 2005 připravil Gundlach retrospektivu maďarského novinářského fotografa Martina Munkácsiho. Gundlach také organizoval výstavy ze svých vlastních sbírek, jako jsou A Clear Vision, The Heartbeat of Fashion a Maloney, Meyerowitz, Shore, Sternfeld: New Color Photography of the 1970s. V roce 2011 kurátoroval výstavu More Than Fashion pro Moskevský dům fotografie a Vanity pro Kunsthalle Wien. (cs)
- Franz Christian Gundlach (* 16. Juli 1926 in Heinebach, Hessen; † 23. Juli 2021 in Hamburg) war ein deutscher Fotograf, Galerist, Sammler, Kurator und Stifter. Im September 2003 war er Gründungsdirektor des Hauses der Photographie in den Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Seine Modefotografien der 1950er, 1960er und 1970er Jahre, die sich immer wieder mit gesellschaftlichen Phänomenen und aktuellen Strömungen in der bildenden Kunst auseinandersetzten, sind vielfach zu Ikonen geworden, haben ihren Entstehungskontext hinter sich gelassen und ihren Weg in Museen und Sammlungen gefunden. Seit 1975 hat er, zunächst in der PPS. Galerie F. C. Gundlach, später für viele Hamburger und Berliner Museen, international beachtete fotografische Ausstellungen zusammengestellt. Anlässlich der Neueröffnung des umgestalteten Hauses der Photographie kuratierte er im April 2005 die Retrospektive des ungarischen Fotografen Martin Munkácsi, zuletzt die Ausstellungen More Than Fashion für das Moscow House of Photography und Vanity für die Kunsthalle Wien 2011. Seine Sammlung fotografischer Arbeiten unter dem Titel Das Bild des Menschen in der Photographie zählt zu den bedeutendsten privaten Fotosammlungen Deutschlands und steht dem Haus der Photographie als Dauerleihgabe zur Verfügung. Aus dem Bestand seiner Sammlung wurden dort seit 2003 unter anderem die Ausstellungen A Clear Vision, The Heartbeat of Fashion, American Beauties und Maloney, Meyerowitz, Shore, Sternfeld. Gundlach Foundation, and since 2003 he has been founding director of the House of Photography at Deichtorhallen, in Hamburg. Gundlach's fashion photographs of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, often integrating social phenomena and visual arts trends, are now found in museums and collections. - He is a photographer whose images show the knowledge of the dominant role of fashion as a cultural social factor. For this reason, he rarely presented the phenomena of fashion in isolation, but rather linked them to the phenomenology of everyday reality and placed them in the socio-cultural context from which they ultimately originated. F. C. Gundlach proves to be a photographic artist with a will to style, a mastery of staging and the ability to shape the photographic image at his leisure, who arranges his models in ever new formal constellations: as a photographer of extraordinary aesthetic quality. - As a fashion photographer who makes use of a recording medium, the photographer must live, think and feel entirely in his time. Fashion photographs are always interpretations and stagings. They reflect and visualize the zeitgeist of the present and anticipate the spirit of tomorrow. They offer projection screens for identification, but also for dreams, wishes and desires.
