- The Eurovision Young Musicians 1998 was the ninth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians, held at Konzerthaus in Vienna on 4 June 1998. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), musicians from eight countries participated in the televised final. Austria and broadcaster ORF previously hosted the contest at Musikverein in 1990. A total of thirteen countries took part in the competition therefore a semi-final was held two days earlier. All participants performed a classical piece of their choice accompanied by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. Slovakia made their début, while Croatia and Sweden returned to the contest. Seven countries withdrew from the 1998 contest; they were Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Switzerland. Germany's withdrawal came as a particular surprise, as they had won the previous edition in 1996. The contest also saw the first withdrawal of the previous edition's host country, in this case 1996 hosts Portugal. The non-qualified countries were Cyprus, Estonia, Ireland, Norway and Spain. of host country Austria won the contest, with Croatia and United Kingdom placing second and third respectively. Baich had represented Austria at the previous edition in 1996, placing second. (en)
- Le Concours Eurovision des jeunes musiciens 1998 est la neuvième édition de ce concours. La finale fut organisée à Vienne, en Autriche le 4 juin 1998. Des jeunes musiciens de 8 pays participèrent à la finale télévisée de cette édition. Ils sont accompagnés par l'Orchestre symphonique de la radio de Vienne, sous la direction de Dennis Russell Davies. Pour la seconde fois après 1988, l'Autriche remporte le titre avec un concerto pour violon joué par Lidia Baich et composé par le violoniste belge du XIXe siècle Henri Vieuxtemps. Elle avait déjà représenté son pays lors de la précédente édition en 1996 à laquelle elle avait terminé deuxième. Le percussionniste britannique Adrian Spillett termine à la seconde place et la violoncelliste croate Monika Leskovar complète le podium. (fr)

Финал конкурса состоялся 4 июня 1998 года на сцене Венского Концертхауса. Победу на конкурсе одержала участница из Австрии Лидия Байх, играющая на скрипке. Музыканты из Хорватии и Великобритании заняли второе и третье место соответственно. Организаторами конкурса выступили Австрийская общественная телерадиокомпания и Европейский вещательный союз. В конкурсе приняли участие молодые музыканты в возрасте до 19 лет из 13 стран Европы. На конкурс вернулись Хорватия и Швеция, также состоялся дебют Словакии. (ru)
