- Cayo Espanto ist eine Insel vor der Küste von Belize. Sie gehört zu den etwa 450 Inseln des Belize Barrier Reefs. Verwaltungstechnisch gehört sie zum Belize District. Die Insel ist in Privatbesitz, Eigentümer ist der US-amerikanische Immobilienmakler Jeff Gram. Bis 1997 war die Insel namenlos und bildete gemeinsam mit zwei benachbarten, winzigen Inselchen die Pinkerton Islands. 1997 kaufte der aus Atlanta stammende Jeff Gram die Insel und benannte sie in Cayo Espanto um, auf Deutsch die "schreckliche Insel", weil sie gemäß lokaler Folklore verflucht sei. Im Dezember 1998 eröffnete Gram ein Resort mit fünf Bungalows für Gäste. Es gibt einen Hubschrauberlandeplatz, ein Spa, einen Fitnessraum und eine PADI-Tauchbasis auf der Insel. Verkehrstechnisch ist die Insel auf Anforderung per Boot von San Pedro oder per Helikopter vom Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City aus zu erreichen. 2022 wurde das Resort vom Reader’s-Digest-Magazin zu den „20 besten All-Inclusive-Resorts für Erwachsene“ der Welt gezählt. Diverse Prominente waren in der Vergangenheit Gast auf Cayo Espanto, unter anderem Leonardo DiCaprio, der zusammen mit Jeff Gram die nahegelegene Insel Blackadore Caye aufkaufte, um dort ein weiteres Resort zu gestalten. - Cayo Espanto is an island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the approximately 450 islands of the Belize Barrier Reef. Administratively it is part of the Belize District. It is private property. Until 1997 the island had no name and formed the archipelago of Pinkerton Islands together with two adjacent, tiny islands. In 1997 the island was bought by US-American estate agent Jeff Gram. In December 1998 Gram opened up a resort with seven villas for paying guests. The resort features a helipad, a spa, a gym, and a PADI diving base. Various celebrities have been visiting the island in the past, among them Leonardo di Caprio, who bought nearby Blackadore Caye together with Jeff Gram in order to put up another resort there. In 2022 it was listed among the "20 Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Resorts in the World" by Reader's Digest magazine. (en)

C'est l'une des multiples îles de la barrière de corail du Belize. Elle est située aà l'ouest de la Caye Ambergris. Jusqu'en 1997, l'île n'avait pas de nom et formait l'archipel des îles Pinkerton avec deux îles minuscules adjacentes. En 1997, l’île a été achetée par l’agent immobilier américain Jeff Gram. En décembre 1998, Gram a ouvert sept villas pour les clients payants. Le complexe dispose d'un héliport, d'un spa, d'une salle de sport et d'une base de plongée PADI.
