- Birds of Fire je druhé studiové album americké skupiny Mahavishnu Orchestra. Vydáno bylo v březnu roku 1973 společností Columbia Records a jde o poslední studiové album vydané za existence původní sestavy skupiny (v červnu téhož roku kapela pořídila další nahrávky, které však vyšly pod názvem až v roce 1999). - Birds of Fire is the second studio album by jazz fusion band the Mahavishnu Orchestra. It was released on January 3, 1973, by Columbia Records and is the last studio album released by the original band line-up before it dissolved. As with the group's previous album, The Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire consists solely of compositions by John McLaughlin. These include the track "Miles Beyond (Miles Davis)", which McLaughlin dedicated to his friend and former bandleader. The back cover of the album features the poem "Revelation" by Sri Chinmoy. (en)

Actualmente, como su álbum predecesor, está considerado un trabajo pionero en la fusión del rock y el jazz. La fama adquirida tras el lanzamiento de The Inner Mounting Flame convencería a la banda de trabajar nuevamente en estudio. A diferencia de su primer trabajo, donde todas las piezas fueron compuestas por John McLaughlin, en este álbum se incluye una composición de Miles Davis titulada como «Miles Beyond». La parte posterior de la carátula del álbum contiene Revelation, un poema de Sri Chinmoy. Este sería el último álbum de estudio con la formación original de la banda. El mismo año lanzarían —álbum en vivo con material de The Lost Trident Sessions, grabado al mismo tiempo que Birds of Fire y publicado recién en 1999—, tras lo cual la agrupación se enfrascaría en una serie de conflictos que finalizarían con su disolución. - Birds of Fire – drugi studyjny album grupy The Mahavishnu Orchestra i ostatni zrealizowany w oryginalnym składzie, nim Jean-Luc Ponty zastąpił skrzypka Jerry’ego Goodmana a Narada Michael Walden zastąpił perkusistę Billy’ego Cobhama. Na odwrocie albumu znalazł się wiersz pt. "Revelation" autorstwa Śri Chinmoya. Zremasterowana edycja albumu na płycie CD została wydana w roku 2000 nakładem Sony Music Entertainment. Wydawnictwo zawierało m.in. przygotowaną przez poszerzoną książeczkę informacyjną, zawierającą rzadkie fotografie grupy. (pl)

Skivan blev den sista med originaluppsättningen av gruppen då trummisen Billy Cobham och violinisten Jerry Goodman slutade efter inspelningarna. På skivomslagets baksida fanns en dikt av gurun . Det här albumet är lite mer varierat och mindre aggressivt än deras debutskiva The Inner Mounting Flame. Det blev också en större internationell framgång än det albumet. (sv)
