- Àrgios (en llatí Argius, en grec antic ́Αργιος o Αργει̂ος) fou un escultor deixeble de Policlet que va florir cap al 388 aC segons diu Plini el Vell a la Naturalis Historia. L'estudiós de la cultura clàssica considera que Plini, que diu Argius Asopodorus va traduir malament la seva font grega, Ἀργεῖος Ἀσωπόδωρος, que voldria dir Asopodoros l'argiu, o natural d'Argos. Però el nom d'Àrgios està testimoniat com a nom propi a tot Grècia en les seves dues formes, Ἄργιος i Ἀργεῖος. (ca)
- Argius was a sculptor of ancient Greece who was the disciple of Polykleitos, and therefore flourished about 388 BCE. The 19th century classical scholar Friedrich Thiersch supposed that Pliny the Elder, in the words "Argius, Asopodorus," mis-translated his Greek authority, which had Ἀργεῖος Ἀσωπόδωρος, or "Asopodorus the Argive." But "Argius" is found as a Greek proper name in both the forms, Ἄργιος and Ἀργεῖος. (en)
- Argeios (altgriechisch Ἀργεῖος, latinisiert Argius) ist möglicherweise der Name von einem oder zwei griechischen Bildhauern. Da die literarische und inschriftliche Überlieferung verschiedene Interpretationen zulässt, ist die tatsächliche Existenz eines Bildhauers dieses Namens unsicher. Auf einer in Olympia gefundenen Statuenbasis des Bildhauers Argeiadas aus der ersten Hälfte des 5. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. findet sich der ungewöhnliche Zusatz Hagelada targgeion, in dem sein Vater genannt wird. Ob mit dem zweiten Teil des Zusatzes die Herkunft des Vaters aus Argos betont wird oder ob es sich dabei um dessen Vater Argeios handelt, kann nicht entschieden werden. Plinius beginnt seine Liste der Schüler des Polykleitos in Olympia mit Argium Asopodorum, wobei auch hier unklar ist, ob es sich um einen weiteren Bildhauer namens Argeios handelt oder ob es sich um den seltenen Fall einer Voranstellung des Ethnikons handelt und damit auf die Herkunft des Asopodoros aus Argos hingewiesen wird. Ein aus Argos stammender Asopodoros findet sich auch auf der in Olympia gefundenen Statuenbasis, weshalb die Deutung als Herkunftsbezeichnung naheliegt. (de)
