L'esmenta Homer a la Ilíada. Després de l'època clàssica romania despoblada, car la gent s'havia traslladat a Egira. - Aegae or Aigai (Ancient Greek: Αἰγαί), also known as Aega or Aiga (Αἰγά), was a town and polis (city-state) of ancient Achaea, and one of the 12 Achaean cities. It was situated upon the river Crathis and upon the coast, between Aegeira and Bura. One of the mentions of Aegae in Homer's Iliad points to this town. It was afterwards deserted by its inhabitants, who removed to the neighbouring town of Aegeira; and it had already ceased to be one of the 12 Achaean cities on the renewal of the Achaean League in 280 BCE, its place being occupied by Ceryneia. Its name does not occur in Polybius. Neither Strabo nor Pausanias mention on which bank of the Crathis it stood, but it probably stood on the left bank, since the right is low and often inundated. Its site is located near the modern Akrata. The location of the ancient city has been excavated. (en)

- Egas (en griego, Αἰγαί) fue una ciudad de Acaya en la Antigua Grecia. Era conocida por Homero, estaba a orillas del y formó parte de las doce ciudades de la Liga Aquea. Hacia el año 280 a. C., cuando se renovó la Liga Aquea, ya no aparece como una de las doce ciudades. Estrabón menciona que en su época estaba deshabitada —en un pasaje dice que se había unido a Egira, pero en otro menciona que el antiguo territorio de la ciudad formaba parte de los dominios de Egio— y que en su territorio se ubicaba un templo de Poseidón. Pausanias menciona en su territorio un santuario de Gea con una antiquísima imagen de la diosa donde la sacerdotisa debía permanecer casta y anteriormente podía haber tenido relaciones con un solo hombre. Como prueba de estas cualidades, debía beber sangre de toro. También indica que se creía que el motivo del abandono de la ciudad había sido su débil posición. Se desconoce su localización exacta pero se ha sugerido que estaba en la desembocadura del río Cratis, en las proximidades de la actual Akrata. (es)
