The Ghanaian Real Tamale United Football Club (mostly only called R.T.U.) was founded in 1976 at Colonel Robert Kunta Zumah’s suggestion, the then Regional Commissioner for the Northern Region of the military government of Ghana (SMC government). The aim of the foundation was an uniting of all small football clubs in and around Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana, into a solid block.
