Notes : 6park.com1. The “mountain man” refers to Sina Dingzhu with a blind left-eye in this music video. He first got out of his hamlet deep in the mountains when he was 10 years old, when his left-eye was injured by a speck of iron bit while iron-smiting. His father brought him out to seek medical help in the county township. They had to trek a treacherous cliffhanger path and long winding mountainous trail for 5 days before they could reach the county township. His left eye was blinded as a result of such a long delay in getting help. That was the first time he saw a city, cars and other modern amenities. On the way back from the township, he told his father he wants to build a road from the outside to his hamlet, so that cars would be able to come in. His father didn't understand what he was talking about... 6park.comAt age 13, against his parent's objections he ventured out the mountains to seek opportunities, working numerous labor jobs and various small businesses. Eventually, by around 40, he made enough money (about RMB ¥30–40 millions, or US $5 millions), and donated it all to build a road connecting his and four other hamlets deep in the mountains to the outside world. In his words, he wanted to bring his mountain folks out of poverty and backwardness, and not to suffer inconvenience and lack of medical care like he did decades ago. But again he faced objections not only from his father, but unbelievably, also from his village folks! 6park.comAgainst all odds and doubts and suspicions, and even a spit on his face by an un-understanding village woman, the road was finally completed. That's the paved road in the music video. It has a total length of 35 km, with 52 hairpin turns. It took him 4 years and all his money + assets sold off + debts raised, to complete. He did not ask for a single penny from the government for assistance in the construction. He father and other villagers finally did turn around to support him. And his father had wanted to ride with him in a car to go back to their hamlet Bala. Unfortunately his father died before the last kilometer of the road was completed. 6park.comWith further investment, his hamlet Balagezong is now developed into a tourist attraction. 6park.comWhat a man, what a story. A noble mountain man. 6park.com巴拉格宗的故事:斯那定珠 / Sina Dingzhu

———————————————— 6park.com2. Balagezong : a Tibetan hamlet in a deep valley with breathtaking scenery, in the northwestern region of Yunnan Province. “Bala” denotes the people there were originally from Batang county in western Sichuan province. “Gezong” in Tibetan means holy mountains. This place has been settled more 1300 years ago. 6park.com•https://en.balagezong.com/

———————————————— 6park.com3. Shangri-La : from Tibetan “Xiangbala” (Shambhala) is a mythical place in Tibetan and Buddhist legends, believed to be the region around the nowaday's Balagezong. 6park.com•https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shambhala 6park.comFurther notes : 6park.comShangri-La , a term synonymous with some earthly paradise hidden behind distant mountains, particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia, permanently blissful and isolated from the world. As a general noun, it can also mean a faraway hideaway that is idyllic and tranquil. For example, you might describe a cottage on a lake as your “Shangri-La”. 6park.comThe name comes from the fictional Tibetan land of eternal youth and bliss in James Hilton's 1933 novel 《The Lost Horizon》. Hilton said he drew inspiration for Shangri-La from Tibetan material in the British Museum, including the travelogue of two French priests who traveled between Beijing and Lhasa in 1844–1846. 6park.comThe Chinese province of Yunnan, which borders Tibet, has been the subject of speculation as a possible inspiration for Shangri-La. In 2001, the city of Zhongdian in northwestern Yunnan was renamed Shangri-La City to attract tourists. And the place Balagezong in the song is in middle of this region.
