Catalent completed its $25 million expansion at a facility in Schorndorf, Germany, the company announced Monday. The facility hosts packing, storage and distribution services, with the expansion adding 32,000 square feet of storage space. The company broke ground at the site in April last year. German pharma company Grünenthal is investing in its Latin American manufacturing facilities, according to a Wednesday release. It invested over €80 million ($87 million) to improve production in the continent. The company has 11 locations in the region. Lucinda Crabtree will be the new CFO of Oxford Biomedica, replacing Stuart Paynter who is leaving the company in September, according to a Wednesday release. Crabtree was an exec at MorphoSys until its recent acquisition by Novartis. Rentschler Biopharma has opened a new manufacturing line at a facility in Milford, MA. The expansion added four new 2,000-liter single-use bioreactors to make complex molecules. A customer project is already underway, with more lined up, the CDMO said July 11. This is the company’s largest expansion in over 150 years. UK-based CDMO Upperton Pharma announced its first commercial manufacturing facility on Tuesday after it passed an MHRA inspection at a site in Nottingham, UK. It will make solid, liquid, semi-solid, nasal and inhaled pharmaceuticals at the facility. Injectable CDMO Incog BioPharma is building a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Indiana. Construction will start in August. The facility will be designed for labeling, packaging and making autoinjectors and other pens, adding 100 new jobs, according to a Monday release. Shine Technologies won a $32 million contract from the US Department of Energy to make the radioisotope molybdenum‑99. The new funding will help Shine’s ongoing efforts to build an isotope facility in Janesville, WI. SHINE plans to produce Mo-99 commercially in early 2027, the company said Wednesday. Hikma was handed an FDA Form 483 after an inspection between May 29 and April 12 at its facility in Cherry Hill, NJ. The form detailed three observations: Quality control procedures were not followed, scientific methods to ensure product quality and strength were not done, and deficient smoke studies were recorded. Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies has partnered with the Technical University of Denmark to offer a training program at the manufacturer’s site in Hillerød, Denmark. This will help Fujifilm hire more than 750 people within a “concise time frame,” the company said Monday. Texting is tone-less yet is a sign of culture hurdles. The rise of text-based communication in teams, while undeniably convenient, presents a hidden challenge: cultural misunderstandings. Even escalations that shouldn't even exist. Text messages lack the richness of nonverbal cues like tone and facial expressions, making it easy for a seemingly neutral message to be misinterpreted as negative or passive-aggressive. This becomes especially problematic in today's increasingly diverse workplaces, where cultural norms around directness and formality in communication can vary significantly. Misinterpretations can then snowball into unnecessary conflict, reduced collaboration, and a dip in team morale. To navigate this challenge, leaders can take a multi-pronged approach. First, they can encourage team members to add context to their texts, explicitly stating their intent and avoiding ambiguity. Second, fostering a culture that appreciates diverse communication styles is crucial. Leaders can achieve this by promoting open communication and encouraging team members to clarify any uncertainties they encounter in text messages. Finally, for complex discussions where clear understanding is paramount, advocating for alternative communication channels like video conferencing or phone calls can be highly effective. This is an interesting conversation between a Coach and Client: Coach: Now that you have made it to a senior leadership role, What do you want to do next? Client: I am so happy to be here and would like to take it easy now with all these years of hard work behind me. I guess, just wait it out for my next role. Even if I just maintain the status quo in this position, I can take a shot at my next promotion after 2 years. Coach: What would you change about yourself to get a better shot for the next bigger role? Client: Nothing really... Not thought about it... right now, just soaking in the perks of this role... This was a conversation between me and another senior leader who had just got promoted a few months back. Recently, while reading a blog by Gustavo Razzetti, "The Arrivism Trap: When Successful Leaders Become Infallible", I couldn't help but recall the above conversation I had with this senior leader. He had gotten himself into the :"Arrivism Trap", a feeling of Know-it-all and i-am-always-right. Here are a couple of excerpts from his blog: "Research shows that many executives stop learning once they reach the top. One study found that senior leaders often gain power at the expense of self-knowledge, overrating their own self-awareness, self-management, and social skills. As Andy Stanley aptly put it, “The higher up a person gets in an organization, the lower their organizational IQ.” "A promotion can trap leaders into thinking they’ve arrived and must, therefore, have all the answers. This phenomenon, known as "Arrivism," results in a false sense of infallibility, leading them to believe their title means they know it all. This stagnation impedes both personal and organizational growth." Defining Transformational, People-Centric Leadership pt. 3 Earlier parts of this post series looked at the history of transformational leadership, outlining how traditional ‘top-down’ leadership has shifted focus towards more people-centric values and ideas. However, while putting people at the heart of transformation helps ensure efficacy, it’s also a critical component for avoiding employee burnout. Addressing Transformation Fatigue and Frustration Continuous change without results can often lead to transformation fatigue as employees experience burnout, frustration, apathy, and attrition. A study from Korn Ferry found that 38% of professionals consider leaving their jobs without having another one lined up due to burnout. Top burnout reasons were increased workload/lack of resources (64%) and constant change (20%). Consequently, this led to job searching (54%), stress (48%), decreased job enjoyment (38%), reduced trust in employer (37%), and lower productivity (32%). To ensure employees are engaged throughout any change management process, it’s important to create a sense of purpose, emphasising the ‘why’ behind transformation, ensuring staff understand their role in achieving organisational goals. Another important consideration is to avoid non-stop work; strategically timing change initiatives and allowing for recovery periods. Also, celebrating successes goes a long way to helping team members maintain morale and cohesion. LinkedIn’s 2024 Workplace Learning Report found that companies with strong learning cultures see higher rates of retention, more internal mobility, and a healthier management pipeline compared to those with smaller levels of commitment. The study also noted that 8 in 10 people say learning adds purpose to their work. Consequently, 47% of companies are investing in career mentoring and coaching to boost employee retention. Providing training and tools that enhance people’s adaptability, resilience, and opportunities for internal mobility are crucial elements to fighting transformation fatigue and developing talent who can drive change and positive influence others within the business.
