The industry is pushing for a "tough resilience criteria" that would prioritize EU electrolysers in the upcoming Hydrogen Bank auction. According to Euractiv, the European hydrogen ecosystem is well-positioned to contribute to reaching the objectives of the energy transition, but it needs support to remain competitive against Chinese producers. 🚨 Record-high hydrogen pump prices in California 🚨 As of October 1st, retail hydrogen prices for light-duty vehicles in California hit a new high at $34.55/kg, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights. Supply disruptions over the past year have driven prices up 119% since 2021, with key players like Iwatani and Air Products pushing costs close to $30/kg. Meanwhile, True Zero stations have risen to $36/kg. The impact is clear: Light-duty FCEV sales dropped 90% in Q2 2024 compared to last year, reflecting consumers’ shift towards battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). With larger investments going into BEVs and hydrogen refueling station availability still limited, it’s becoming evident that hydrogen’s future in California may lie in heavier-duty applications like rail, marine, and aviation.
