The funding round was led by Matterwave Ventures and Climentum Capital, with additional investments from Counteract, SFO, Sabancı Building Solutions, and Voyagers. ecoLocked specializes in developing carbon-negative building materials aimed at reducing the net carbon footprint of construction projects. Their innovative approach involves converting sequestered carbon into high-performance building materials, offering a scalable solution for the construction industry. This aligns with their mission to transform buildings and infrastructure into substantial carbon sinks. The newly secured funds will be utilized to expand ecoLocked's production facilities, introduce new product lines, and enhance product adoption. My colleague, Federal Counselor Albert Rösti has announced, only a few days ago at the World Summit on Information Society, that in addition to the OpenWallet Foundation, a OpenWallet Forum shall be created. This Forum shall be hosted by the International Telecommunication Union and allow a multilateral approach to issues such as the regulation of crypto-processors. From a digital sovereignty point of view, it is clear: all smartphones need to be equipped with a crypto-processor and these crypto-processors need to become open hardware. Your insights have been invaluable in exploring our future financial market infrastructure. The year 2024 marks an important milestone in the development of #tokenization and the transition to the #token economy. This is not least the result of the groundwork laid in 2023, which has created a solid foundation for concrete results on the blockchain. Major financial players are increasingly entering the market and driving the development of a token economy. Tokenization enables a sophisticated digital financial market infrastructure that overcomes numerous limitations of the existing economic and financial system. It goes beyond a simple technological upgrade and has the potential to fundamentally transform traditional financial markets and other economic sectors.

NRW 💚 Green Startups The GreenStartup Monitor for NRW was published last week https://lnkd.in/eiMNi-X2 and what we also feel for Cologne has now been quantified: ✅ The proportion of green startups is growing to 30% ✅ The support system for green startups in NRW is particularly well rated 86% (national average 56%) ✅ Green startups are key players for climate protection in NRW. The projections show that green startups have significant climate protection potential in the range of several million tons of CO2e. ✅ Every fifth green startup comes from NRW. This makes North Rhine-Westphalia the most populous federal state in Germany, ahead of Berlin (17%) and Bavaria (12%) as the largest location for green startups. ✅ Green startups in NRW are particularly technology-oriented. Technology development and production are the most important business model of our green startups. ✅ The universities in NRW are an important locational advantage and driver of green innovations. At 76%, green startups in North Rhine-Westphalia make particularly frequent use of support from universities. We are on the right track - but there is definitely still a lot to do. There are hurdles, particularly in the areas of financing, networking with the established economy and bureaucracy. Together with my co-panelists Sophie Ehrlich (from EIT Health), Christian Bouda (from bloomblisser.com) and our moderator Markus Wanko (from xista) we‘ve been elaborating on: ✅ The various healthcare verticals and respective risk profiles ✅ Public vs. Private Funding and the need for a closer collaboration between these two ✅ Brining start-ups and SMEs closer to each other to accelerate innovation ✅ Current PE and VC environment ✅ Healthcare deal activity and outlook going forward Conclusion on the initial question: 𝗬𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸! 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵?! 1️⃣ „𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛“ - it is our „duty“ to allocate capital and to invest into our own health through supporting innovation and the relevant infrastructure 2️⃣ Healthcare investing is „𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘“ driven investing -> less emotions, more facts 3️⃣ Healthcare is only at the very beginning of it‘s innovative disruption and the convergence between disciplines (e.g. life sciences and (deep) tech) will turbocharge this upcoming disruption -> 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 => 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗥𝗨𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Besides that, there have been great discussions and stimulating thoughts, mainly around the political environment and the „𝗗𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗙𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗦“ concept = TOPIC OF THE DAY And we also saw insightful discussions on the foodtech, space investing markets, discussions on the democratization of the investment industry and - since we‘re in #vienna - the CEE investment environment. After another failure at #COP29, I think it’s obvious that we need to redesign the COP's governance. This starts with the host country selection process.   What’s the issue? Despite enormous urgency to mitigate the worst effects of climate change, COP29 was overshadowed by controversy, including host country Azerbaijan's use of the platform to promote new gas and oil deals. ARD titles harshly: “Not just failure, but fraud.” https://lnkd.in/dShQpDaY Unfortunately, this has been the rule, not the exception, since many years.   So, what to do about that? I think, first of all, we need to change how host countries are selected. Petro states, for example, should simply not be hosts. Not because they shouldn’t have a seat at the table (they must!) but because they have a conflict of interest that regularly captures the COP.   For this, the UNFCCC would have to adjust the host country application and selection process.   Thinking more radical: What if host countries would always be those most affected by climate change? They would have a natural incentive to get the most meaningful agreements and action out of every COP and to design it accordingly.
