After celebrating Valentin Strässle's 5-year anniversary just three months ago, this month we’re thrilled to honor Thomas Hughes for five years of dedication, innovation, and passion! One thing that truly sets Thomas apart is his enthusiasm. Just as much (if not more! 😉) energy as he puts into his beloved community garden in his free-time, he brings to his daily work: Over the past few years, Thomas has managed, revised and upgraded our entire measurement and characterization labs, including the single-handedly built of a new, custom, fully automated single-mode measurement station – a massive achievement that has made a real impact on our company and further enables us to provide high-quality measurements with high throughput to our customers!🚀 Thank you, Thomas, for your commitment, ideas, and energy! Photonics West is taking a break today. PhotonDelta took the chance and managed to pull together technology experts as well as end-users from silicon valley in Sunnyvale at the premises of Plug and Play Tech Center . Among the highlights showcased is vario-optics photonic interposer technology, which is incorporated in a concept developed by CITC - Chip Integration Technology Center and presented by Sander Dorrestein .

✨ 2024 – A Year of Achievements at vario-optics! ✨ Q1: We kicked off the year with a New Year’s dinner and visited the Jost Bürgi (1552-1632) exhibition at the Kulturmuseum St. Gallen. The Swiss inventor and his early technological brilliance inspire us to work and develop our waveguide technology platform and enable innovative products for our customers. Q2: In spring, we celebrated 10 years of EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM membership that has resulted in many excellent collaborations throughout the last years. We also welcomed Dr. Manuel Hinderling to our process development team. He brought fresh energy, new ideas and a lot of expertise to our projects. Q3: The late summer was filled with exciting events, including a very busy ECOC Exhibition & conference in Frankfurt, where we exchanged experiences with our partners and made many new contacts. Dr. Felix Betschon attended Optica Global Photonic Summit in Malaga, where Jose Pozo and his team put together a fully-packed agenda with great networking opportunities. Additionally, our collaborator Seongwook Samuel Choi from Lipac gave a compelling talk on "A Novel Waveguide Embedded System for Next-Generation Optical Interconnection" at the Open Compute Project Foundation Summit , highlighting our integrated waveguide technology. In November, we showcased our expertise in both photonics and electronics at "The Coin Meeting - Photonics & Microelectronics" by EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM, with Nikolaus Flöry delivering an insightful talk about our optical PCB platform. As part of our collaboration with CITC - Chip Integration Technology Center and TNO, a report on the development of a photonic interposer platform to solve the PIC packaging bottleneck was published in PIC Magazine & PIC International Conference .
