Today, FDATA North America, representing over 30 fintech companies, submitted our response to the Canadian Department of Finance's consultation on Budget 2024 measures. Between 2017 and 2023, VC funding for Canadian fintechs grew at 1.8 percent per year, on average, compared with 18 percent in the United States. Growth of the fintech sector inevitably depends upon the availability of capital to support growing companies. And while there is no shortage of Canadian venture capital (VC), the US fintech market remains a primary target for investors due to its larger size and maturity. 50 percent of the investors we interviewed said they also invested in US fintechs.
