The code is technically voluntary, however, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) monitors compliance. During our recent visits to The Payments Canada SUMMIT and #EBAday 2024, we received numerous inquiries about ISO 20022, an open international standard with multiple different scheme implementations, poised to create a unified language with different dialects for most global payments. This framework is currently being implemented across many international markets using their interpretations, including Canada and Europe, revolutionising how electronic data is exchanged between financial institutions. As a result, financial institutions must carefully evaluate how they will respond to this significant shift. The complexity and expense of this migration can be daunting, especially because of the different implementations rolling out. Ineffective compliance could lead to missed opportunities. Therefore, it is crucial for banks and financial institutions to develop strategies to navigate this transition effectively. Collaborating with a dedicated transaction data management specialist, such as Intix, can be a strategic approach. Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Stack Capital announced that Hopper, an existing portfolio holding, has announced a partnership with Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company, Limited, the largest credit card issuer in Japan, owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group. The partnership will see HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) create and power the travel loyalty portal for SMCC, enabling its cardholders to easily book flights, accommodations, and car rentals, while saving money. This transaction is the first non-financial service business in SMBC Group's comprehensive financial service "Olive" for individual customers. HTS’ industry-leading suite of flexible fintech products, along with its e-commerce platform, comprehensive travel agency, and deep understanding of data were all key factors which supported SMCC’s decision to partner.
