In Durham Region, Lakeridge Health, in collaboration with Ontario Tech University, is taking a significant step forward in the evolution of health care delivery with the launch of the Partnership for Advanced Technology in Health Care (PATH). Check out this acticle by Dr. Tara Kiran and team on #access to #primarycare as published in the #CMAJ ! Looking forward to reading this. But I must say, it's not surprising that #access based on #province still remains an issue throughout Canada ! What I didn't expect was for it to be a stronger determinant than the typical #socialdeterminantsofhealth including #income , #education , #race , #immigrationstatus or the #rurality of where you live .

A Question to Reflect On How can we be so technically advanced but still struggle with interoperability? This isn’t a technology issue anymore. Interoperability is table stakes—a must for any modern healthcare system. 🏥 Why It Matters Only 40% of Canadians access health info electronically, and just 29% of physicians share data outside their practice. Fragmented systems cause delays, inefficiencies, and harm. Can LRR help determine capital efficient ‘public’ CEOs from those that are not? 📝Been thinking a lot about the cost of wealth redistribution. We analyzed Ontario's Sunshine List, focusing on individuals with salary >$500k in organizations receiving >$1M in provincial funding. Calculated the Leadership Revenue Reach (LRR) defined as $Revenue/$CEO compensation to find out how much public capital is controlled for every $1 salary paid. 📝107 individuals were in the sample with a total compensation >$66M; 37 were CEOs paid a total of $25M; 67 administrative roles (including CEOs) took home $44M (67.2% of the total). 🚀Ontario Health | Santé Ontario, LCBO and OLG showed the highest capital efficiency with an LRR of 44,651, 13,145 and 6,586, respectively. Ontario Power Generation and University Health Network rounded out the top 5 with scores of 3,861 and 3,484. 🤷🏽‍♂️Hospital CEOs occupied the middle with LRRs between 1000-2000. Ontario Power Generation had the most individuals on the list (17), accounting for 20% of total compensation and a composite LRR>500. ❌At the bottom of list, MaRS Discovery District Ontario Financing Authority, and Global Risk Institute recorded significantly lower LRRs of 46, 31, and 12, respectively. Is ‘LRR’ valid as a high-level heuristic (it obviously does not address qualitative differences in business or revenue)? Is anyone aware of similar datasets from other jurisdictions? What alternative metrics might be better? Is there a threshold LRR that might indicate acceptable value? Appreciate the feedback!!🙏

Data released from the Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth paints a troubling picture related to how the mental health of this country's kids is worsening over time. The number of youth between the ages of 12-17 who are reporting low levels of mental health has doubled since 2019. Girls are particularly struggling. A report commissioned by Children's Healthcare Canada in 2023 underscores the costs these youth and their families pay, the longer they have to wait for mental health services. These costs are measured in dollars, but also reflect the human costs of waiting for care in a system too small to meet their needs. Canada has no plan for children and youth, and their evolving healthcare needs. There is strong alignment across the children's health sector about the priorities we must tackle together, if we truly want to measurably improve children's health outcomes. This data released today is an important call to action, and reminds us there is no time to wait.
