🗞️ NEWS -- Max Power Mining Corp (CSE: MAXX) | (OTC: MAXXF) provides a corporate update as the Company prepares for an intense finish to 2024. ⏺️ New CEO Mr. Mansoor Jan will be in Saskatchewan and British Columbia the week of November 18, 2024, for a series of meetings with key stakeholders and various parties, including Senior Strategic Advisor Mr. Neil McMillan, aimed at finalizing an advanced strategy for Saskatchewan where permit applications for claims targeting Natural Hydrogen in the southeast part of the province were submitted over the summer (“Rider Project”). Initial gas probe sampling covering certain target areas in the southeast has been carried out with the Company awaiting results and confirmation of permit applications. MAX Power is also reviewing additional areas of interest in the province. 🗣️ Mr. Jan commented, “My broad analysis of Saskatchewan is that the potential for commercial concentrations of Natural Hydrogen extends well beyond the highly prospective southeast part of the province. An analysis by Alberta's Progress Report finds that Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), which manages the province's public pensions, has a private holding company named Seibu Investments that is being used to mitigate losses in a now-bankrupt junior oil and gas company and an oilfield services company. Two directors of Seibu Investments are AIMCo employees. These high-risk AIMCo investments include Razor Energy, a junior oil and gas company that AIMCo had been invested in since 2017. Razor has been in bankruptcy protection since January 2024. After Razor was unable to repay debts to AIMCo, the provincial pension manager became the 70% owner of FutEra Power, a Razor subsidiary. FutEra’s only asset is a 21-megawatt combined gas and geothermal power plant that cost $49 million to build and started operating in 2023. “I’d call it shadowy. While this stuff is technical public nobody really knows about it. You’ve got to plow through bankruptcy court proceedings to find out about this move by AIMCo to purchase these Razor assets,” said Greg Meeker, the former chair of the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund and an expert on pension governance. “They’re trying to mitigate any losses. That’s what this holding company is all about. That's what these debt to equity swaps are all about. It’s all about mitigating losses for companies that were marginal investments to begin with. They knew that Razor was a sketchy play to begin with." The only other public transaction that Seibu Investments has taken part in was in 2022, when AIMCo converted $100 million of debt into 49.7% ownership of Western Energy Services. AIMCo converted Western Energy Services’ debt into equity after the company missed multiple deadlines on paying the interest on AIMCo’s loans. The latest annual information form for Western Energy Services notes that AIMCo’s large holdings in the company constitute a “significant financial risk.” The document notes that there is no assurance that the interests of AIMCo will align with the interests of the corporation, and further, the large holdings of AIMCo in the company may impact the liquidity of the company’s shares. Western Energy Services latest audited financial reports show that the company still owes AIMCo $99 million, with that loan coming due in May 2026.  AIMCo's investments in Razor Energy and Western Energy Services originate with the Alberta Growth Mandate, a provincial government initiative that saw AIMCo invest millions of dollars in marginal junior oil and gas companies that had billions of dollars worth of environmental cleanup liabilities on their books. “I think the board is under informed about the disasters from the Alberta Growth Mandate,” said Bob Ascah, a former vice-president at Alberta Treasury Board and a Parkland Institute research fellow. "The rot seems to be deep at AIMCo."

We raised exactly this issue Svante cites on the CleanTech North webinar last night that focused on the CCUS Tax Credit. While we did not cover the Manufacturing tax credit we did dip into the lunacy that the most beneficial of the green economy tax credits (CCUS at up to 60%) does not have a matching Manufacturing tax credit (unlike, say, energy generation or storage) to support the CANADIAN SUPPLY CHAIN for that technology! This may be oversight, but announcements that are not delivered on or calibrated/revised for months lead to uncertainty… and business hates uncertainty; there is enough of it in the high risk tech scaleup world. This gap MUST be closed immediately and CleanTech North will continue to advocate for that. Hopefully before we lose all our rising stars in #CCUS like Claude Letourneau, ICD.D and Svante…

Chevron sells Canadian assets to Canadian Natural Resources. Chevron is divesting its assets in Canadian oil sands and shale for $6.5 billion. Chevron is selling its assets in the Athabasca oil sands and Duvernay shale to Canadian Natural Resources for $6.5 billion. The deal is expected to close by the end of this year. It is part of Chevron’s strategy to sell assets worth between $10 billion and $15 billion by 2028. At the same time, the company produced 84 bboe/d in the Athabasca sands and Duvernay shale last year. The former Chevron assets will allow Canadian Natural Resources to increase production by 122,500 bboe/d next year. Chevron, meanwhile, wants to focus on shale production in the United States, the Eastern Mediterranean, Guyana, Australia and Kazakhstan. With so much attention on the shift from voluntary to mandatory reporting, we’d like to highlight what investors are focused on. Today we look at Canada Pension Plan (CPP) CSSB comments. CPP manages C$632.3 billion in net assets, with almost $76 billion invested in Canada. They commend the CSSB on its proposed standards that are in broad alignment with the International Sustainability Standards Boards’ (ISSB) Sustainability Disclosure Standards. They also believe that this will support investors to make more informed investment decisions, and will reduce the reporting burden for Canadian entities that operate or raise capital in multiple jurisdictions. The ISSB Standards also bring a significant advantage to SMEs through the principle of proportionality embedded in IFRS S1, allowing them to report within their capabilities while striving for incremental enhancements over time. We also note that, while this reporting may represent a considerable lift for some Canadian entities today, significant investment is being made by the IFRS to support capacity building. We recognize that the proposed CSSB Standards would become voluntary for annual reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2025, until the Canadian Securities Administrator (CSA) incorporates the CSSB Standards into a CSA rule. We view domestic regulators as well placed to consider when adoption should become mandatory and that the CSSB should remain focused on defining the standard to meet reporting needs of issuers and investors. Effective date: We support the timeline extension for CSDS 1 and CSDS 2 compliance to January 1, 2025. Non-climate disclosures transition relief: We are not supportive of the transition relief allowing companies two years during which an entity is permitted to disclose information on only climate-related risks and opportunities. Scope 3 GHG emissions transition relief: We are open to this relief, in principle, as it provides reporting entities more time to prepare. CSDS 1: Timing of reporting. They are open to the relief regarding alignment of reporting of sustainability-related impacts with financial ones. CSDS 2: Climate resilience (scenario analysis). They recognize the limitations of scenario analysis in comprehensively assessing climate resilience due to data availability and market sophistication, among other things. They nevertheless do not support the transition relief on scenario analysis. Criteria for Modification Framework: We support the ISSB‘s “building blocks” approach, which allows for additions to the global baseline, but not modifications or deletions. Therefore, we recommend that the CSSB only consider additions to the ISSB baseline when unique circumstances arise in the Canadian public interest, such as addressing the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
