Francis MacDonald and April Hayward, Ph.D., MBA (Finance) Hayward, Ph.D., MBA of the Li-FT Power team were in the Northwest Territories over the past week to meet with key stakeholders on their exciting project in the territory. There are a number of reasons why I personally like the potential of lithium development in NWT and Li-FT Power in particular: - Low environmental impact: This is what is called hard rock spodumine and does not take a significant amount of water like other forms of lithium mining. It is literally a drill, blast, crush operation and then off to market. It is literally a large aggregate quarry. - Close to infrastructure: A number of the Li-FT properties are close to an all season road which can then be loaded up on rail and off to processing either overseas or domestically (when available). - Employment: Even though it will not make up for the loss of employment from Diavik it will still absorb a good amount of local talent that we have built up over the past 20 years. - Contracting opportunities: Support of local mining supply chains of which much is Indigenous. Private real estate is often an important asset for large pension funds like the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Fund (OTPP). Large institutional investors and pension funds have been the primary investors in private real estate. However, they are now becoming more popular with individual investors. There are several types of private real estate. One unique example is the Forum Real Estate Fund.
