Thrilled to announce some critical new supporters for Varme Energy's flagship Edmonton project today. We've added Canada Growth Fund and Gibson Energy as project investors, with Gibson also providing land & operations services to the asset. Canada Growth Fund has stepped up with a 200,000 tonne per year carbon credit offtake agreement on a 15 year term, fundamentally de-risking our projects carbon economics. My favourite feature of our CCO with CGF is that they've enabled us to pull out up to 100,000 tonnes per year of our bio-energy carbon capture and storage credits (BECCS). These removals credits are the most in-demand commodity we sell, and small volume global prices for BECCS have been $200-300/tonne+. A full purchase agreement with an ability to chase prices for partial volumes is very project friendly. Today's announcement sets the foundation for our first asset. Health Canada in collaboration with the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water issued a drinking water objective for PFAS. The objective value of 30 ng/L for the sum total of 25 specific PFAS is based on an evaluation of health, exposure, analytical, and treatability considerations. Adopting a precautionary group-based approach simplifies many aspects of reducing the potential harmful effects of PFAS. For instance, this approach acknowledges that many PFAS occur together, and many treatment technologies are relatively indiscriminate between PFAS. This approach inherently treats all 30 PFAS as equally harmful. The summary of the survey of PFAS occurrence (and co-occurrence) is concise and well-referenced.

Welcome to Alberta, Deep Sky! Great news today that Deep Sky has chosen the town of Innisfail, Alberta for their carbon removal innovation and commercialization centre. Known as Deep Sky Labs, the facility will be used to pilot multiple direct air capture (DAC) technologies - helping to validate and optimize the performance of DAC so technologies can be scaled up and deployed at commercial scale as soon as possible. The test facility is expected to be operational early next year, beginning to remove 30,000 tonnes of CO2 over a 10-year period.   The location was chosen based on Alberta's exceptional geologic storage resources and Innisfail's growing reputation as a green energy and cleantech hub. The project is estimated to generate high-quality jobs for 80 workers during construction, 15 jobs for ongoing operations, and provide a $110-million boost to the local economy over the next decade.   The Deep Sky team are also advancing two CO2 storage projects in Quebec - pre-feasibility studies are now underway to assess the geologic potential for permanent CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers in Becancour and using in-situ mineralization in Thetford Mines. If you are interested in marketplaces then come to Platform Calgary this Thursday to hear how specific parts of the Fuelled platform drive emissions reductions A couple of the interesting themes often underappreciated are below Equipment for everything from power projects to agriculture is one of the largest markets globally - inefficient equipment markets result in equipment sitting unused in a yard while the company next door might order the exact same thing due to lack of data (that costs companies money and drives emissions) Better equipment data and visibility supports leasing for bespoke equipment - a lot of cleantech equipment gets higher rates because banks just haven’t seen it as much and don’t know what the salvage value is - better markets support new efficient equipment used in everything from oil and gas to solar Brownfield sites have a better chance of being repurposed when there is an active market for the legacy equipment (closes bid ask spreads and brownfield sites are increasingly critical for everything from carbon capture to biodiesel) Markets that reduce waste in large supply chains make immediate differences today, and it’s an exciting part of the space to play in

CDN CANDU Clean Energy Re-Industrialization: The New West=BC/AB/SK/MB+ON through an economic alliance that respects the CDN constitution can make progress on the removal of regulatory roadblocks that prevent the support of the re-industrialization of north America through the value added processing of both food & energy products produced in the New West! And if ON focused on its use of CANDU, in support of clean energy manfacturing prosperity for CDN could be improved!

The result of heat pumps working in cold weather really surprised me as it has not been observed in existing heat pumps. Typically, when temperatures get below -18 heat pumps are no more efficient than resistance heating. As temperatures can get much colder in parts of Canada relative to Western Europe, backup sources will play a greater role.

While CDN has a carbon tax and has been convinced to keep its oil and gas resources in the ground by US based climate NGOs, & buys wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps from China, the US in direct contrast has no carbon tax & became the largest exporter of oil and gas in the world in 2023. And most recently has enacted tariffs on goods from China. Is it any wonder our currency is being devalued?

The updates focus on land reclamation bonds, visual impact assessments, and agricultural land assessments. These measures aim to ensure responsible development of renewable energy by addressing long-term land use, aesthetics, and the impact on agriculture. Key Insights from the Alberta Industrial Heartland Association Conference I recently attended the Alberta's Industrial Heartland Association conference and wanted to share some key takeaways: 1. Innovations in Sustainable Energy Exciting updates on projects driving net zero objectives, including energy storage, carbon capture, renewables, and clean fuels. ATCO EnPower has started producing hydrogen, and ATCO and Qualico Communities Edmonton have their first hydrogen home! ATCO EnPower and Cando Rail & Terminals discussed using hydrogen and batteries to power locomotives, which could significantly impact fuel conservation and decarbonization. There was also an interesting discussion on the future that could include biomanufacturing and SMRs. 2. AI and Geopolitical Trends Evan Solomon highlighted AI as one of the top 5 geopolitical risks of the year. He spoke about how AI is widening the gap between advanced economies and low- to middle-income countries and the risks of future social discontent and unrest that can have ripple effects on the global economy. Another interesting point was on how AI will disproportionally impact jobs of highly skilled workers which is the flip of historical technological advances that typically impacted low skilled workers. This topic highlighted AI’s transformative potential and the need for cooperation as we adapt to these changes. 3. Economic and Labour Market Insights The economic forecast highlighted Alberta’s strong population growth and job creation challenges. Despite decreased capital investments, growth is expected due to increased exports via new tidewater access. The labour market analysis showed a significant shortage in skilled trades, with companies offering scholarships to attract more people into trades. Overall, the conference was a powerful reminder of the importance of innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking in driving our industry towards a sustainable and prosperous future.
