For the mining industry to continue to evolve, we must work together with Indigenous communities to forge an equitable future. In Season 2, Episode 5 of Why We Mine, host Robin Stickley speaks with John Desjarlais, Executive Director of the Indigenous Resource Network, about the lessons we’ve learned and how we’re moving forward. Robin also discusses the "seven generations" mindset and its long-term impact on these crucial relationships with Christy Smith, Senior Vice President of Indigenous Engagement and Human Environment at Falkirk Environmental Consultants. “If you’re considering joining Teck, here’s something important to know: your time here will be filled with new experiences and learning opportunities that will help you grow both personally and professionally. During my co-op term, I did so many different things! I attended Courageous Safety Leadership training, which really emphasized health and safety as a core value at Teck and gave me time to reflect on why workplace safety is so important. I built my first low-code Power App, visited Teck’s Highland Valley Copper mine, contributed to the Student Experience Committee, and even volunteered as a mascot for an industry conference. One of the things that really impressed me at Teck was the inclusive, collaborative environment that gave me the confidence to speak up and know my ideas were heard and efforts recognized. Together, these made my time at Teck truly unforgettable – both as a person and as a young professional.” Aily, Engagement Specialist Co-op, Vancouver Head Office Explore Winter 2025 Co-op job postings. Teck employees recently visited the Colville Fish Hatchery in northeast Washington State to present a donation of $10,000 towards the hatchery's dam renovation project. The hatchery is a non-profit fisheries science and vocational skills centre for local area high school students run by the Colville School District, and Teck has been a strong supporter of this education and conservation effort for the past two years.

We are a proud partner of the UN Women Originarias Programme, empowering Indigenous women in Chile since 2016. A fifth anniversary ceremony was held recently to celebrate the Centro Originarias, a first-of-its-kind centre in Iquique that provides Indigenous women with tools and training to develop skills, build networks, and improve their well-being through economic opportunity. More than 3,500 Indigenous women have actively participated in the centre's training, promotion and collaboration initiatives, and the Centro Originarias has become the heart of the Originarias Programme.

“Collaborating closely with the skilled trades and operator teams at Teck to troubleshoot equipment has deepened my understanding of how a state-of-the-art industrial mine site operates. It has been an exciting journey, learning and working alongside experienced professionals to discuss complex engineering solutions. The highlight of my co-op experience has been the welcoming and encouraging people, who genuinely empower me to seek help and never feel overwhelmed during meetings or presentations. I hope more people get to know and experience Teck’s co-op program, attend online events, and be part of the inclusive work communities. It has helped me build strong relationships with other co-ops students from diverse backgrounds across different locations.” Albert, Maintenance Engineering Co-Op, Trail Operations Explore Winter 2025 Co-op job postings.
