ERCOT has emerged as a hotbed for the development of hyperscale data centers, as well as other large flexible loads. Oncor alone received 80 GW of new service requests from large commercial and industrial customers in 2024, of which 59 GW came from data centers. However, the energy needs of the large facilities projected to interconnect soon can vary widely, from needing 24/7/365 firm capacity to those having the flexibility to substantially reduce their demands in response to market pricing and ERCOT grid operational needs.
