✈️ Sustainable aviation isn't achieved through technology alone. It also depends on how aircraft are operated. Modern air navigation systems play a vital role in improving operational efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, and supporting aviation's environmental objectives. The Aviation Sustainability – Global Air Navigation self-paced course explores the operational strategies and global frameworks that support more sustainable air navigation. The course covers: ◾ Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) ◾ ICAO's Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP) ◾ Flight Optimization for Sustainability Available as a standalone course or as part of the Aviation Sustainability programme, it offers flexible learning for aviation professionals worldwide. 🔗 Start learning: https://lnkd.in/ehJkpm8c

More pathways to support #NetZero50 ✈️🌱 An additional Sustainability Certification Schemes (SCS) has been approved by the ICAO Council, bringing the total number of approved schemes to four. This marks another important step in facilitating the uptake of aviation cleaner energies and supporting the aviation sector’s decarbonization efforts. Here's why it matters: Under CORSIA, aircraft operators can reduce their offsetting requirements by claiming emissions reductions from the use of aviation cleaner energies. To ensure these emissions reductions are credible and environmentally sound, the fuels must be certified under Sustainability Certification Schemes approved by the ICAO Council, demonstrating compliance with CORSIA's sustainability criteria. The newly approved SCSs is reflected in the ICAO document on CORSIA Approved Sustainability Certification Schemes, available here: https://lnkd.in/envv_U4g Interested SCSs are invited to submit applications to ICAO between 1 February to 15 March every year: https://lnkd.in/egHkavsH

Safe, resilient, and sustainable aerodrome infrastructure is essential to supporting the continued growth and efficiency of global aviation. As airports face evolving operational demands, emerging technologies, environmental challenges, and increasing traffic, ICAO's aerodrome work helps States and industry stakeholders strengthen safety, capacity, and resilience through international Standards and guidance. Last week, the 9th Meeting of the ICAO Aerodrome Design and Operations Panel Working Group (ADOP/WG/9) was held at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, bringing together around 60 experts from 23 States and 10 international organizations. Discussions focused on enhancements to aerodrome design and maintenance, modernization of visual aids, vertiports, water aerodromes, climate change impacts on airport pavement infrastructure, runway friction, and more. The meeting outcomes will support future updates to ICAO's Standards and Recommended Practices in Annex 14, Volume I, the PANS-Aerodromes (Doc 9981), and related guidance material, helping States and aerodrome operators enhance airport safety, operational capacity, and infrastructure resilience worldwide.
