  • ♻️ What happens when you can't avoid, reuse, or recycle waste on a claim? In EcoAware and EcoDivert, we teach that following the Zero Waste Hierarchy is key to reducing both environmental impacts and claims costs. But what happens when avoiding, reusing or recycling aren’t options? That's where Waste-to-Energy (W2E) comes in. ♻️So, what is W2E? Waste-to-Energy (W2E) is a recovery method that uses waste as fuel to generate electricity or heat. While it's not the highest and best use, it prevents materials from being buried in landfills and captures some value from what remains. Here’s how the Zero Waste Hierarchy works and where W2E fits: 1️⃣ Best: Avoid generating waste - restore, repair, or dry-in-place wherever possible. 2️⃣ Next Best: Reduce waste-to-landfill - donate usable contents and materials to extend their life. 3️⃣ Third Best: Recycle - materials like steel, plastics, and drywall can be remanufactured, though this process still uses energy and creates emissions. 4️⃣ Fourth Best: Recovery (W2E) - when nothing else is feasible, recover energy from materials that would otherwise go to landfill. 👉 Composting is an example of W2E and did you know that many commercial compositing facilities accept clean wood waste? ✅ Check out our Recycling Directory to find verified recyclers near you and to help make better choices on every claim here: https://hubs.li/Q03bdZ4s0 📚 Want to dive deeper? • ESG Reporting: A Box to Check or a Business Game-Changer? Many companies approach ESG reporting as just another compliance requirement. But what if it’s actually the key to unlocking competitive advantages, financial savings, and business resilience? Most businesses track Scope 1 & 2 emissions, if they track emissions at all. But Scope 3 emissions, the biggest share of a company’s carbon footprint, are widely unreported due to lack of technology and data gaps. But why can’t Scope 3 be ignored any longer? 🔹 Regulations are catching up: Governments worldwide, including the EU’s CSRD, are making Scope 3 reporting mandatory, pushing businesses to track emissions beyond their own operations and into their supply chains. 🔹 Financial benefits go beyond compliance: Tracking Scope 3 emissions helps businesses cut costs by reducing waste and improving efficiency. The world is discovering that in many cases, the low carbon way is the low cost way. 🔹 Transparency matters: Regulators, customers, and insurers strive towards real emissions data, not estimates. Businesses that fail to provide it will fall behind and will not be able to accurately measure their avoided emissions long term. 💡 EcoClaim is changing the game by providing businesses with the tools to track real Scope 3 data, not just estimates, so they can move from reporting to measurable climate actions. 📊EcoClaim’s TRAX platform helps companies measure, manage, and reduce supply chain emissions, allowing insurers to gather real data, take meaningful action, and achieve tangible results. 📢 Ready to learn how tracking Scope 3 with EcoClaim can give your business a competitive edge while driving real climate impact? • 🌱 The EcoAcronym Dictionary: GWP 💡 ❓ Acronym alert! We’re kicking off this new series with a tricky one: GWP. Think you know what it stands for? Vote in the poll then keep reading below for the answer. Comment if you got it right! No peeking! 👀 🔠 Welcome to The EcoAcronym Dictionary, where we decode the many acronyms floating around sustainability, carbon accounting and claims worlds. Some are straightforward, others… not so much. ✅ Ready for the answer? ⚡ Trick question! GWP actually has two meanings: 🌍 Global Warming Potential (GWP) - Used in carbon accounting, GWP measures how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere compared to CO₂ over a set period (usually 100 years). The higher the GWP, the worse it is for climate change. For example, methane has a GWP about 27x that of CO₂. Not ideal. 💰 Gross Written Premium (GWP) - In the insurance industry, GWP represents the total value of premiums written by an insurer before any deductions (such as reinsurance costs or commissions). It reflects the total business an insurer has underwritten during a given period, making it a key indicator of company growth and market presence. 🔎 Moral of the story? Context is everything. In one case, GWP helps us measure climate impact. In the other, it helps insurers assess their financial health. Same acronym, two very different worlds. 💬 Did you guess correctly? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️
