The City of Edmonton classifies anything above five units as mid-density, but you can still create up to six homes in a low-density format: a duplex with two garden suites and basement units. By maintaining 45% site coverage or less, developers avoid excessive massing and blocked sunlight. Sustainable, efficient, and respectful. That's what gentle infill is about. #sustainable #yeginfill

CTV News' Nicole Weisberg is continuing its series on the new infill bylaws in Edmonton’s mature neighbourhoods. This segment highlights local developers (including me!) sharing their take. Personally, I can’t imagine many homeowners feeling excited about a 4, 8, or 9-plex going up next door. These kinds of builds drastically change the feel of a neighbourhood, and longtime residents no longer have a say in the process. Infill should bring more people into a community, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of those who already call it home. As a developer, I believe infill should strengthen neighbourhoods, not force longtime residents to rethink where they belong. Real gentle infill, like garden suites and secondary suites, adds density while keeping the character of mature communities intact. Thoughtful, well-planned growth is possible, but that’s not what’s happening right now. We need to do better for our neighbours and our communities. https://lnkd.in/gxW2dsUU #yeginfill

If you're worried about how new development might change your neighbourhood, you're not alone. But density doesn't have to mean losing what makes Edmonton feel like home. Thoughtful infill can support growth and reduce urban sprawl while keeping mature neighbourhoods livable, welcoming, and connected. #energyefficient #yeginfill

Please watch this segment about Edmonton’s infill bylaws. We need to do better for our neighbours. There are smarter, less disruptive solutions to make room for our growing population. Gentle infill doesn’t mean squeezing fourplexes and eightplexes onto single lots in mature neighbourhoods. Thank you Nicole Weisberg for shining a light on this topic. Thank you Kevin Taft and the Coalition for Better Infill for the work you are doing to give Edmontonians a voice. https://lnkd.in/gA63ekeA #yeginfill
Zoning bylaw making infill easier for developers

If you live in a mature neighbourhood in Edmonton, please pay attention to this! Edmonton’s mature neighbourhoods have always been built on community. With the recent zoning changes, the people who built these communities are losing their say on what is being built next door, and their neighbourhoods are completely changing overnight. This is heartbreaking - these families deserve so much better. We need to work together to protect these spaces. Infill should enhance our neighbourhoods and create room for better multi-generational living, not push people out. Thanks for shining a light on this issue Nicole Weisberg https://lnkd.in/ggAHDztd

We have to address Edmonton’s housing challenges with thoughtful solutions, not a one-size-fits-all approach. The new zoning bylaws allow eight-plexes on residential lots, and longtime residents are feeling the impact. CTV News just shared the story of a couple who has lived in McKernan for over 40 years - they're considering leaving after an eight-plex was approved next door. As Edmonton grows, how we add density really matters. It is OUR responsibility as builders to make sure that residents feel heard and supported. #gentleinfill #yeghousing

Mature neighbourhoods matter. The infill we create should respect the character of the community, not erase it. #matureneighbourhood #edmontoninfill

Toronto’s push for garden suites highlights how cities can tackle housing challenges with creative infill solutions. In Edmonton, we’ve seen firsthand how gentle infill—like backyard suites and legal basement suites—can add much-needed housing while preserving the character of mature neighbourhoods and reducing urban sprawl. Smart growth and thoughful planning are key to shaping the future of homebuilding. #smartgrowth #homebuilder
