Alberta’s Markets -AESO: 16 Hours at $0/MWh Yesterday, Alberta’s power market saw wholesale electricity prices at $0/MWh for 16 consecutive hours—a result of market fundamentals at play. ☑️ Wind Generation Surged – Output exceeded 4,300 MW, creating a supply surplus. ☑️ Low Demand – Warmer weather kept electricity consumption below seasonal norms. ☑️ Export Limits – Interchange capacity was maxed out (ATC for AB-BC at 950 MW), while the AB-SK intertie remained offline. Does this create an issue for dispatchable assets? Not necessarily. Generators can adjust their zero-dollar block offers in surplus conditions, and export opportunities remain an effective balancing tool—though, in this case, capacity was already at its limit. With intertie constraints and rising renewable penetration, how should market participants adapt to prolonged price suppression? Comment below! #ArcusPower #windgeneration

Red and orange are covering the Texas map in the Arcus Power Nrgstream dashboard, with high demand across nearly every zone. From North to South, West to Houston, the grid has been running at full throttle, with peak demand reaching 83 GW earlier today—just shy of the state’s total capacity. It's difficult to overlook the role of battery storage in deploying 4.6K MW today. Stepping in when needed most to help balance supply. With no conservation measures called yet, ERCOT has managed to keep reserves steady, but demand remains high. As temperatures rise over the weekend, demand will ease. Today’s grid conditions show ERCOT facing sustained winter peaks across, It really shows that we need a more responsive system to keep things running smoothly! How are you adjusting operations as ERCOT’s demand patterns continue to shift?

Winter Peak Demand in ERCOT: Time to Rethink Tariff Structures? Yesterday, Texas broke yet another winter peak demand record, with ERCOT’s grid exceeding 78 GW at midday—an unusual timing for peak demand. With renewables stepping in to meet 35% of the load, and batteries playing a bigger role in grid stability, we’re seeing a fundamental shift in how the system operates. Today, the demand is likely to exceed 83GW, with DAM prices surging past $850/MWh in the morning, with LCRA and West LMP zones exceeding $1,000/MWh. But here’s the real question, one that Daniel Erhardt touched upon: Are our current electricity tariff models still appropriate? Traditionally, coincident peak demand charges have been designed around summer peaks, when air conditioning loads dominate electricity use. However, with winter peaks now rivalling summer peaks, should we be re-evaluating demand-based pricing models? 🔹 Should we introduce seasonal demand charges? 🔹 Are winter peak forecasts becoming just as critical as summer planning? 🔹 How can demand response programs and storage incentives adapt to these changes? ERCOT’s market is evolving, and with weather pushing grid conditions to new limits, it might be time for a fresh look at how we price and manage electricity demand year-round. Curious to hear your thoughts in the comments: How should tariff structures evolve to reflect these shifting grid realities? #ERCOT #ArcusPower

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO)'s capacity market is undergoing a massive transformation in 2025! Key changes are coming, and one of the biggest impacts will be felt by those relying on Demand Response (DR) strategies. If you are depending on LMRs, you need to pay attention. Stricter testing could lead to a 40% haircut for existing DR programs. Plus, LMRs are now largely excluded from Zonal Resource Credit (ZRC) replacement options, creating a real "stranded risk" scenario. Are you prepared to navigate these challenges and avoid potential financial penalties? Are your agreements up to date? Don't get caught off guard! We can help you identify hidden opportunities in the new rules and optimize your participation in the MISO capacity market. ✅ We help you understand the changes. ✅ We help you optimize when and how you participate. ✅ We help you maximize revenue and minimize your risk. Last week, we had our quarterly company town hall—an important moment to reflect, align, and set the course for what’s ahead. But we didn’t stop there. After diving into company updates, we took the competition to the track at Speeders Go-Karting! It was an all-out battle for glory, with adrenaline, strategy, and maybe a little bit of friendly trash talk. 🥇 Brendan Jones took the checkered flag with an impressive win. 🥈 Alvaro Rozo followed closely behind in second place. 🥉 Austyn Nagribianko, EIT secured a strong third-place finish. Whether on the track or in the office, our team knows how to push the limits and come out on top. Looking forward to carrying this momentum forward—both in business and on the next race day! 🚀 #Teamwork #Leadership #CompanyCulture
