This week, The DRM Authority hosted a key meeting led by USAID/BHA Food Security Specialist Monica Rodriquez to develop disaster-related food security guidelines. The Bahamas is one of six countries selected for this important initiative under the Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP). Representatives involved in the national feeding network, including the Bahamas Christian Council, Hands for Hunger, Super Value, Red Cross, Salvation Army and more, came together with key government agencies such as Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture to collaborate on strategies for ensuring food supply and distribution during emergencies. A special thank you to all attendees for their dedication to building resilience and strengthening food security in our nation! #DRMAuthorityBahamas #FoodSecurity #DisasterPreparedness #StrongerTogether Hands For Hunger Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources, Government of The Bahamas

*2024: A Bold Beginning* It’s been an eventful first six months for the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Authority. Since our operationalization in July, we’ve been focused on strengthening disaster preparedness across The Bahamas through strategic planning and extensive training. Our first hurricane season was a test, but thankfully, The Bahamas emerged with minimal impact. Seven hurricanes rapidly intensified in the Atlantic this season, a stark reminder of the growing power and unpredictability of storms and the importance of preparation. We’ve been dedicated to training our teams and communities, ensuring everyone is equipped to respond effectively when disaster strikes. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey—our dedicated staff, partners, and the Bahamian people. Your support and collaboration have been invaluable. As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to creating a stronger, safer Bahamas. #DRMAuthority #YearInReview #DisasterPreparedness #Bahamas #PreparedForAnything
