  • Between 2021 and 2022, CESI developed a short-term grid development plan for Zambia to assess the feasibility of integrating 440MW of renewable energy into the national grid by 2030. This study played a crucial role in ensuring that the transition to clean energy could happen in a safe, reliable, and economically viable way, aligning with the country’s sustainability goals and the growing electricity demand. The project explored key aspects such as the benefits of regional cooperation, the transition away from coal, and the role of hydropower in guaranteeing grid stability. With this initiative, CESI reinforces its commitment to supporting a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient power system, contributing to Zambia’s journey towards a greener future. #renewableenergy #grid #sustainability #CESI #energytransition

  • CESI is proud to support Terna in the implementation of the Tyrrhenian Link, the record-breaking submarine link - the longest and deepest HVDC cable ever laid - featuring 500 kV HVDC and 1000 MW per cable, linking the islands of Sardinia and Sicily to the Italian Peninsula. This internationally significant project will strengthen the Mediterranean energy hub, fostering a more sustainable energy future.   Thanks to its technical and environmental expertise, CESI is working alongside Terna throughout the entire project, from the feasibility phase to construction, and will continue to provide high-level specialized consultancy in the post-operam phase. Our team was on board during marine surveys, contributing to cable routing and identifying the best techniques for crossing valuable habitats. As technical and environmental consultants, we have carried out preliminary planning and designing of compensation measures, including the transplantation of Posidonia oceanica and an innovative experimental transplantation of Cymodocea nodosa. We also participated in technical meetings with Terna, MASE, ISPRA, and CoNISMa (which was entrusted with implementing the transplantation activities). To ensure the project’s environmental sustainability, we developed the Environmental Monitoring Plan for cable laying and are overseeing the construction activities of the eastern section, conducting environmental surveys and monitoring the initial campaigns. Once again, this collaboration highlights CESI’s deep involvement in complex projects, addressing the challenges of energy transition and environmental sustainability. #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #CESI #Terna #TyrrhenianLink #EnvironmentalMonitoring #HVDC

  • Very happy to see the Baltic States having successfully synchronized to the ENTSO-E system. As CESI we are proud to have played a role in that effort by supporting most of these countries to set-up the technical, market and regulatory conditions for this transaction to happen with an appropriate level of system security. Our involvement in the region dates back several years, with our participation to the flagship EC studies to foster the Baltic power market integration. In recent years, our mandates have been primarily oriented to support the development of critical infrastructures such as Synchronous Condenser in Lithuania and battery storage solutions in Latvia.

  • Since 2021, CESI has been supporting NamPower, Namibia’s national electric utility, in developing its Integrated Resources Plan (IRP)—a strategic roadmap shaping energy investments for the next 30 years. The IRP aims to ensure a reliable, secure, and accessible energy supply while adapting to market uncertainties with flexible solutions. It also supports Namibia’s energy transition, integrating more renewables and distributed resources, and outlines clear action plans for transmission, generation, and electrification. With our expertise, we are proud to help NamPower build a sustainable and resilient energy future for Namibia. #CESI #energytransition #Namibia #sustainable #powergrid #renewableenergy

  • Since 2023, CESI has been proudly contributing to the Botswana Renewable Energy Support Project, working alongside BERA (Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority) and the Government of Botswana to strengthen the country’s policy and regulatory framework for its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Our efforts focus on evaluating existing regulations to align them with the newly approved IRP, engaging stakeholders to exchange best practices, and providing targeted training for BERA and the Ministry of Minerals and Energy. We are also developing critical technical studies and a new network code to ensure effective implementation. By equipping Botswana with practical tools and fostering an environment for private investments, CESI is helping shape a more resilient and sustainable energy future. #CESI #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation

  • Hannes Vitzthum’s career at CESI is a story of continuous growth, learning, and new challenges. He joined in 2009 as Head of the High Power and High Voltage Labs, stepping into a leadership role at a time of major transformation. “I was a young engineer with no management experience, and we were in the middle of integrating CESI with IPH and FGH. It was an exciting but complex challenge, both commercially and culturally. I had to learn fast, but CESI gave me the support and guidance to grow into my role.”   In 2017, CESI entrusted him with even greater responsibilities as Platform Manager for the German sites, FGH Mannheim and IPH Berlin. “I was excited to take on this new challenge. It was a big step forward, but CESI believed in me, and I was eager to prove myself. One of the experiences I’m most grateful for is the Advanced Leadership program at Columbia University in New York—an incredible opportunity that gave me new perspectives on leadership and management.”   With CESI’s acquisition of KEMA Labs in 2022, he took on a truly global role, managing CESI’s Lab Assets worldwide, including substations, grids, logistics, and facility management. “It was another major leap in my career. At one point, I had to step in and manage the Global High Voltage Laboratories—a challenge that arose overnight but one I embraced fully. Knowing that CESI trusted me with such responsibility gave me the confidence to push my limits even further.”   Now, as of December 2024, CESI is entering a new strategic phase. In this new structure, Hannes leads the Operational Business for the newly created ‘Central Europe’ site, bringing together labs in Berlin, Mannheim, and Prague. “This is a new and demanding task, but I feel motivated to face it together with my teams—knowing that CESI will continue to support me on this journey.”   At CESI, careers are built on trust, challenges turn into opportunities, and growth is a constant. Could this be your next step? #CESI #CareerGrowth #InspiredWithInnovation #EmployerBranding
