About us
We are committed to doing our part in helping society meet the dual challenge of meeting the world’s growing demand for energy while reducing environmental impacts and the risks of climate change. As an important supplier of oil and gas, a major refiner of crude oil for fuels and lubricants, and one of Europe's leading petrochemical companies, employing over 14,000 people across Europe, we have been helping to meet energy demand in Europe for over a century through our main commercial brands: Esso, Mobil and Mobil1. We are committed to addressing the key challenge of energy development in Europe — developing affordable and secure supplies of energy in a safe and environmental responsible manner while maintaining EU competitiveness. Our products are marketed through a network of service stations, and also to commercial segments, such as aviation, industrial and wholesale, equipment manufacturers, and marine.

Chemicals are a building block of everyday life – and of the European economy. But in the EU, the industry is “at a breaking point”, according to the latest Cefic report on The Competitiveness of the European Chemical Industry. Higher energy prices and complex regulations make it hard for Europe to compete. “To stay the course, you must adjust the course.” Philippe Ducom shares his views on how to address Europe’s weaknesses and boost industry. As they finalize the Clean Industrial Deal and Omnibus packages, policymakers should keep the following in mind: 🔹 Real relief from bureaucracy. 🔹 A commitment to openness to technology. 🔹 Promotion of market-based mechanisms. 🔹 Support for circularity. Read more in Philippe’s article.
A year ago, I signed the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal, which called for urgent action to restore the business case for industry investments in Europe. Since then, Europe has recognized its competitiveness problem, but what we haven't seen is concrete action. As a business leader, but furthermore, as a proud European, I sincerely hope the European Commission presents a plan on February 26 that turns words into action. The future of Europe depends on it. Here's what the Commission should keep in mind as it finalizes its Clean Industrial Deal:

Recycling is key to transitioning to a more circular economy for plastics. So, why do we need chemical recycling? Here are three good reasons: 1. To recycle more plastic – and more types of plastic. 2. To help keep plastic from being sent to landfills or being incinerated. 3. To help governments and countries achieve ambitious recycling targets. #chemicalrecycling #plastics #technology

In case you missed it: ExxonMobil and Trammo, Inc. have signed an HOA to advance discussions for low-carbon ammonia offtake. ExxonMobil plans to supply 300,000 to 500,000 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia annually on a long-term basis to Trammo. The ammonia would come from ExxonMobil’s low-carbon hydrogen facility at Baytown. This project, if confirmed, is expected to be the world’s largest of its kind and could produce more than 1 million tons of low-carbon ammonia per year. Today, FuelsEurope published a Call for Action on the strategic value of fuels manufacturing sector – and the need for the sector to be included in the Clean Industrial Deal. Philippe Ducom spoke at their press conference, highlighting the sector’s key role for the EU’s economic stability, energy security, and the transition to a more sustainable future. ⬇️ Europe has a decision to make: if it is committed to energy and economic security for its industries and citizens AND wants to chart a path toward a lower-emissions future, policymakers must: 🔹 Recognize the refining sector as strategic and include it in the clean industrial deal. 🔹 Take urgent action to reduce regulatory burden and cut red tape. 🔹 Embrace technology neutrality and stimulate innovation Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/dbF3r2FZ

The most common way to recycle plastic? Traditional mechanical recycling. But there's another method that can complement it: chemical recycling. This technology can handle hard-to-recycle plastics, helping to increase recycling rates and support a more circular economy for plastics. #chemicalrecycling #plastics #technology

Congratulations to US Ambassador to the EU Mark Gitenstein and to Bjoern Seibert, Head of Cabinet of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who received the 2024 American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) EU Transatlantic Business Award yesterday. Nikolaas Baeckelmans, VP, EU Affairs at ExxonMobil Europe and AmCham EU Vice Chair, helped present the award, recognizing their work to build a culture of dialogue and trust on both sides of the Atlantic. Just how vital is the transatlantic relationship❓ 🔹 More than 16 million jobs. 🔹 One-third of global GDP (in purchasing power). 🔹 Over €6 trillion in total commercial sales annually. The EU and US remain each other’s most important markets for goods and services, and investments are the real backbone of this relationship. No place in the world has attracted as much American FDI as the EU in the last decade. For Europe to continue to attract investments, especially for the energy transition, policymakers must show investors they are serious about reducing regulatory burden and making it easier to do business.
