German customs authorities and public prosecutors have arrested 4 individuals and raided premises linked to 2 different networks allegedly selling luxury cars to Russia (prohibited under Article 3h Council Regulation (EU) No 833/2014) (report, report). 🚨 The UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) has published its first-ever General Comment on Article 4 of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture, which addresses places of deprivation of liberty. ❗In this General Comment, the Subcommittee explicitly references the right to monitor "involuntary removals (extradition, expulsion, deportation, etc.) by aircraft, boat, or similar means", "including cases where states designate certain parts of their territory as “international zones."” 📢 BVMN is proud to have contributed to this general comment, having submitted comprehensive evidence as to how international zones, transit zones, and green borders have increasingly become situations of risk for asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants whereby they, in the context of state-sanctioned border and migration control measures, are systematically subjected to grave rights violations including torture and inhuman treatment. 🔗 The full general comment can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dcMFRM7G

  #CJEU Issues an Opinion on Collecting Gender Information   The Mouse association in France has issued a complaint with CNIL - Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés due to the fact the French railway is requiring customers to indicate their title (‘Monsieur’ or ‘Madame’) (‘Mr’ or ‘Ms’) when purchasing transport tickets online. Mouse has stated that indicating #gender is not necessary information for purchasing tickets and that this violated the #GDPR principle of #data #minimization.   CNIL has referred this case to the Court of Justice of the European Union for advice, and has received the following reply: the railway undertaking could choose to communicate based on generic, inclusive expressions when addressing a customer, which have no correlation with the presumed gender identity of those customers. On 10 April 2024, the General Court of the Court of Justice of the EU annulled the inclusion of Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman on the EU sanctions list for the period 22 February 2022 to 13 March 2023.
