The Summit brought 150+ accelerator leaders from across Europe and beyond to discuss and debate the current state and future of acceleration. Leveraging the ideas and content generated from the Summit, we’ve developed this whitepaper which focuses on the top trends in acceleration as well as the challenges, opportunities, and promising models for the future. The startup acceleration sector, which was started 10 years ago by Y Combinator has grown almost exponentially and evolved enormously since its founding. Although the sector continues to grow, it is also facing an ever-changing landscape that poses both opportunities and challenges.
At the European Accelerator Summit, there were 5 big trends identified which are affecting and reshaping the sector: PRE-ACCELERATION, VERTICALIZATION, CORPORATE ACCELERATOR RELATIONSHIP, GOING GLOBAL & EVOLVING BUSINESS MODEL.

The purpose of the project was to lay the foundations for a system that will provide for the long-term management of space traffic for Earth orbit. The study proposes a set of technical rules of Space Traffic Management (STM) that lead to an efficient use of space for an ever-increasing number of satellites and actors; an assessment of required data for this system; the management and economic systems, which will make STM operations possible; and the legal and policy framework for the data collection, distribution and enforcement of space traffic rules. The rules include: collision avoidance for all operational spacecraft; a proposed zoning scheme for Sun Synchronous Orbit; a human-spacecraft zone; and further STM rules for Geostationary Orbit. This report could be seen as a first iteration, which could be developed further by relevant experts, space agencies and international fora, and once optimized would enable the efficient use of the space domain in the years to come.

Airports will play a major role in transition towards climate neutral aviation. Sustainable energy production and use (both airside and landside) as well as a shift towards greener multi-modal transport options will reduce GHG emissions and improve local air quality around airports. Bringing together a highly competent and complementary consortium of 29 partners supported by an external advisory board, TULIPS will accelerate the implementation of innovative and sustainable technologies towards lower emissions at airports.

At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol alone, TULIPS will realise an estimated 800kT/year CO2 savings based on the sum of the expected benefits of the 17 demonstrations by 2025 with further savings scaled with technology roll out.
17 real-life demonstrations of green airport innovations (technological, non-technological and social) will be performed at the Lighthouse Schiphol, and some also at fellows Oslo, Turin and Larnaca airport. Measuring and quantifying benefits and forecasting their impact on EU climate goals should they be implemented extensively across European airports, results in hands-on robust roadmaps which present how these technologies and concepts should be deployed to different sized airports (international hubs down to regional level) considering economic, geographical, and political scenarios across Europe and beyond.

Topics covered include a) improved multi-modal shift for passengers and freight, reduce traffic congestion and offer seamless green travel options, b) improved airside infrastructure for future electric/hybrid aircraft infrastructure, c) smart energy solutions to manage airport operations, d) integrating hydrogen fuel cell technology into current ground support equipment, e) enabling large scale supply of SAF fuel along with the preparation of an EU clearing house, f) circular economy, and g) UFP mitigation.

EXPAND will develop a toolbox for implementing ‘Challenge Based Idea Accelerators’ and run a first Idea Accelerator focused on homelessness.

The toolbox is aimed at higher education teaching staff and will enable a practical new method responding to the need for more civic engagement, developing new problem solving skills and stimulate social entrepreneurship in students.

The proposed project builds on the creativity of students combined with design thinking and challenge-based education to tackle societal challenges, with a focus on homelessness in the pilot programme.

Our project aims to forge unlikely alliances across a wide spectrum of partners to define a viable, replicable and scalable methodology for tackling systemic societal problems.

The alliance will consist of business school teaching staff, design thinking experts, social enterprise leaders with expertise on how to tackle the issue and startup professionals.

The main output of the project will be:
    - An ecosystem map
    - The challenge-based idea accelerator programme itself
    - The toolbox aimed at higher education teaching staff.
    - The business cases resulting from the first idea accelerator.
    - Reports with insights on the local ecosystems working on homelessness.

The main outcome of the project is:
    - A closer connected impact ecosystem
    - More engagement of students in social impact entrepreneurship and tackle societal
    challenges.
    - A strengthened awareness, employability, creativity and new professional paths for students
    and teaching staff.
    - Validation of social entrepreneurship as a way to tackle societal challenges.

Goal: To develop a collaborative model for managing a city, underpinned by digital tools which unlock more efficient methods of planning, operating and maintaining transport-related infrastructure, and enabling the creation of user-centred mobility services

VoxPop will address the mismatch between the efforts that have been channelled to enhance the mobility system and the expectations & needs of the city users, by tackling a combination of challenges:
    - the paradigm of data underuse in a data overflow environment
    - misrepresented understanding of user needs
    - lack of systematic approaches & solutions
-inability to manage the public space effectively
-vendor lock-in & concerns around data usage practices by the private sector

It seeks to develop a data-sharing model where multi-party data are translated into actionable intelligence to:
    - enable the creation of enhanced user-centred mobility services
    - unlock more efficient methods of planning, operating & maintaining transport assets

It will create a public & private data-sharing ecosystem where data are shared within a trusted group of stakeholders, co-developed to ensure both public & private entities generate value from these data. It will also investigate this model through a collection of use cases explored by the partners and wider stakeholders through an Open Call.

The city believes digital transition is a journey combining People, Processes & Technology, which is why VoxPop has a strong component looking at non-technological challenges (namely governance, business models, user centricity & unintended consequences of digital innovation).
