Earlier this month, Silvia Franz from our LIFE Capture partner Politecnico di Milano made a presentation at the 4th International Congress on PFAS - Management and Environmental Health Risks, in Milano, Italy titled: Photoelectrocatalytic advanced oxidation of PFAS in contaminated groundwater of Veneto Region, Italy. Dr. Franz and her co-speaker Paolo Ronco gave an update on the research into groundwater remediation through Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) based on Photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) Oxidation. #LIFEprogramme #pfas #pfasremediation #AdvancedOxidationProcess #PhotoelectrocatalyticOxidation

Combining novel Analytical protocols for PFAS contamination with Technologies for sustainable Remediation
About us
LIFE CAPTURE aims to examine the characteristics and behaviour of PFAS contaminants, with the intention of finding innovative remediation solutions for PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. The overarching objective is to develop sustainable management methods for dealing with PFAS contamination in soil and groundwater. The project is overseen by eight European partners (ABO, Greensoil Group, iFlux, Universita Milano Bicocca, Politecnico di Milano, SGS, Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet and Viacqua), who are working closely together to guarantee its success.

Progress update: Foam Fractionation lab tests. Foam fractionation is a technique that uses air bubbles to trap PFAS molecules in a stable foam. This foam is then collected and treated, a promising technique for the treatment of PFAS contaminated soils. GreenSoil Group, one of the partners in this R&D project, is testing a technique where the mixture is both aerated and mechanically stirred. Pictured below is a test setup with 300g of highly contaminated soil (PFAS > 1000 µg/l) mixed with 6l of water. Greensoil will test different parameters like optimal amount of stirring, bubble size, continuous or intermittent stirring/aerating and evaluate both the amounts of foam produced and the stability of the foam. #LIFEprogramme #pfas #pfasremediation #FoamFractionation

Last week Alessandro Tucci, Ph.D. student at Politecnico di Milano, presented his research on "Photoelectrocatalytic removal of perfluoroalkyl substances from groundwater of the Veneto Region", which was conducted as part of our LIFE CAPTURE project. He was afterwords awarded the Prize for the best oral presentation relating to photocatalytic/chemical reactors. Congratulations! 🤩
Last week Alessandro Tucci, Ph.D. student at Politecnico di Milano under my supervision, was awarded the Prize for the the best oral relating to photocatalytic/chemical reactors. The prize was released by the Scientific Committee of the 12th European Conference on Solar Chemistry and Photocatalysis: Energy and Environmental Applications. Alessandro has presented our research on “Photoelectrocatalytic removal of perfluoroalkyl substances from groundwater of the Veneto Region», which was conducted as part of the LIFE Capture - PFAS project in collaboration with Paolo Ronco from Viacqua SpA, Massimo Carmagnani from ACQUE VERONESI, Giuseppe Mascolo, Sapia Murgolo and Cristina De Ceglie from Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche. Congratulations Alessandro!
