Today, Teresa Anjinho takes office as the new European Ombudsman for the next five years.   But what does this mean?   The European Ombudsman works to make your voice heard in the EU by following up on complaints from citizens about the actions of EU institutions and bodies. In her new role, Anjinho will conduct inquiries and hold the EU’s institutions and agencies to account.   In December 2024, the European Parliament elected Teresa Anjinho as the new European Ombudsman, following a thorough assessment of all candidates. #OnThisDay 24 years ago, the Treaty of Nice was signed, laying the foundations for the EU’s biggest enlargement.   Thanks to the changes it introduced, the scope of the European Parliament's decision-making powers was expanded to more laws than ever before. europa.eu, the EU’s first joint webpage for its institutions, was launched #OnThisDay in 1995.   The website started out with content in only three languages (English, French, and German). Today it is available in all 24 official EU languages.   Over the past 30 years, its primary purpose has always been, and continues to be, to connect citizens with the EU. The website provides information about the European Union, its institutions, its daily activities, and much more.  

"Our objective is freedom for Ukraine and lasting peace for all of Europe and the world."   On the sombre day marking three years of Russia's full-scale invasion, the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and international leaders to send a powerful message of support.
