Space-Qualified GaN-Based Power Management Hardware for Latest Adaptive SoCs Co-developed with technology partner AMD, Renesas Electronics has just introduced a new space-grade power management reference design. The ISLVERSALDEMO3Z will support the AMD Versal AI Edge XQRVE2302 adaptive SoC device in carrying out complex computational workloads. It features gallium-nitride (GaN) FETs capable of delivering strong power conversion efficiencies. Half-bridge drivers, point-of-load (PoL) regulators and power sequencers are also included. A wide range of different power rails can be supported for greater integration flexibility. Its telemetry readouts of internal signals enable detailed diagnostic analysis to be conducted. The board utilisation and current consumption associated with this hardware is almost 75% less than with the previous generation XQRVC1902 reference design. This means that it is highly effective at meeting the size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) demands of satellite implementations.
