The latest @certnz quarterly insights report is out today. Once again phishing and credential harvesting is at the very top of the list, contributing 46% of reported cyber incidents in New Zealand in the Jan-Mar 2024 period. Good CIO Online article on differing opinions about why SD-WAN is so in demand? I do love how Australia uses an ‘s’ instead of a ‘z’ in words like ‘organisations’. But that’s just me. To follow on from my earlier post - below are some of my key product and technology takeaways from this week at #ciscoliveapjc but lots of detail behind this... keen to discuss more ; Cisco XDR & Splunk - The story and messaging is now really clear - where to start, what and when to leverage Splunk SIEM and SOAR, based on your maturity, requirements, and most importantly your human resources.... - more specifically, HOW, WHEN, and IF you add Splunk to Cisco XDR - and then the value of that integrated approach. How that of course enables SOC efficiency, faster and improved incident detection but then, threat hunting and investigation and forensics. - I would argue, Data#3 is perfectly positioned to help our customers launch XDR and then outsource to our Managed SOC / SIEM for the next level... Cisco Cloud Security APIs and Splunk integration - This highlighted how existing Cisco API's (from Secure Access etc) have been used to already generate a pre-packaged Cisco Security App with Splunk (for some awesome visualization) and then also the Cisco Security Add-on for deeper granular investigation.. - But continue to use the Open APIs and full transparency on the Splunk queries so those who want to can continue to customize with SPL...v cool. Hypershield - Although I already felt somewhat informed, I am now genuinely pumped about this solution. The potential of the AI-driven automatic segmentation and what Cisco calls "real-time exploit mitigation" is awesome. Especially the automated testing in the Shadow plane of mitigating controls before applying patches...this will be able to really shorten change approval timeframes... - I also now understand the AI is driven by TALOS TI about not just CVE's but also learning from CWE's....it seems the Hypershield team are that confident in the results they will be predicting zero day threats and feed that back into TALOS TI... Secure Access, Meraki & Cisco XDR Integration - XDR has stitched together the controls of Secure Access/Umbrella and enables automated and customizable actions and workflows into Meraki. Moving to "Passwordless" is a journey...but its becoming a reality for StrongDM customers. By implementing Passwordless Authentication in PAM programs, organisations can now protect privileged access with stronger, phishing resistant controls, improve access governance, and simplify the user experience. Ultimately reinforcing security by reducing the attack surface of critical systems.
