UltraTech Cement Limited’s (BBB-/Stable) planned acquisition of a 23% stake in India Cements Limited (ICL) for cash of about INR19 billion is neutral for its credit metrics, says Fitch Ratings. UltraTech’s stake in ICL would be second to the largest shareholder’s holding of 28.4%, should the stake purchase be completed. We believe UltraTech’s EBITDA net leverage would remain comfortably below 2.5x, even if it chooses to acquire the remaining stake at a similar valuation. We view the transaction as being in line with UltraTech’s recent strategy of augmenting its presence in the under-represented south India region. UltraTech has a strong record of turning around weak assets, which we believe supports its ability to improve the target’s utilisation and profitability, and mitigates integration risks. #UltraTech

Fitch Ratings has upgraded HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited's Rating to 'BB+' from 'BB'. The Outlook is Stable. The upgrade follows Fitch's upward revision of HMEL's Standalone Credit Profile to 'bb-' from 'b+', as we expect the company's EBITDA net leverage to be sustained below 5.0x from the financial year ending March 2025 (FY25) to FY28. We expect HMEL's deleveraging to be supported by lower capex intensity following the completion of its petrochemical project and the cash flow increase from the ramp-up of the petrochemical project's operations. The upgrade also reflects the plant's integration of its refining and petrochemical processes, which should lead to greater cash flow stability.

Yet another country announcing further investment in Nuclear Energy. In the 2024 Union Budget, the Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sithararman has announced further investment in nuclear energy, with a focus on Small Modular Reactors. https://lnkd.in/dNqer5nu 🌏 India currently has 23 operating nuclear reactors with 7 more under construction. That makes it the 7th largest reactor fleet in the world behind the US, China, France, Russia, Japan and South Korea. Despite that, only 3% of India’s current electricity generation comes from nuclear energy compared to around 20% for the US, 70% for France and 8% for China. 🌏 Like China, India has a big problem in meeting its global CO2 emission targets – last year its emissions rose by just over 200Mt, which to put that in context, is just over half Australia’s total emissions. 🌏 Like most advanced economies (except Australia), India has realised that net zero CO2 emissions is going to be impossible to achieve without nuclear being a key part of the energy mix. 🌏 There are currently 440 reactors operating globally, with 94 in the US, 56 in France and 56 in China. China has plans to build a further 158 reactors, with 28 already under construction. Globally there are 343 new reactors planned. Demand for uranium is growing again after a decade hiatus post Fukushima. Supply remains constrained after a decade of under-investment and limited exploration. Shaw and Partners views the recent pullback in the uranium sector as a period of consolidation whilst the global industry absorbs the implications of the US ban on Russian imports, and whilst utilities wait to see whether Kazatomprom and Cameco can lift production in 2025 and 2026 as planned. In our view, there is high potential for a further surge higher in the uranium price later this year post the Kazatomprom 1H24 results and the annual World Nuclear Association conference in early September. India signs key IPEF agreements on clean and fair economy India has signed key agreements aimed at promoting a clean and fair economy, as well as an overarching arrangement under the US-led Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) for prosperity. The agreements are focused to enhance clean energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve tax transparency, and combat corruption. These pacts were concluded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to the US for the Quad Summit.
