What are the challenges of a startup scaling 📈 from seed🌱 to series funding💰? In our ongoing "Startups Scaling Smarter" blog series, we have Forum Ventures Partner and GM of Platform Olivia O'Sullivan to weigh in. This meaty 4K+ word interview is a veritable goldmine of insights from a seasoned VC investor. Here's just a taste of the wisdom she had to offer. Treat your fundraising like a sales funnel. Implement processes for finding and following up with investors. If an investor shows interest but for whatever reason passes on you now, don't forget about them. In fact, here's what she had to say about that specifically: "Anytime something big happens, something momentous, like you close a new customer or someone committed new capital, you're going to send an email update to that whole list of people in the nurture bucket that's like, “Hey, I'm super excited to share some amazing progress that we've had over the last couple of weeks at X company. We just closed XYZ customer, we're now up to x ARR, and we also are down funnel on a number of similar conversations.” And you can then say as your CTA, “We're still actively fundraising, so if you want to reconnect and learn a little bit more about all the progress over the last couple of weeks, my calendar link is here.” This one bit of advice alone may make the difference between getting from Seed to Series A.
