Some things are worth a second share. Last month, I posted the print version of my NZ Marketing Magazine piece on brand fame and the power of earned. Now, it’s officially online, and - if you want a read - still bringing insights on why earned media should be your go-to for building brand recognition.

1 Campaign Overview: My mission was to elevate the online presence of The Grooming Lab Co and drive sales for their premium grooming products. With a limited budget of 60 AUD, I strategically crafted a campaign tailored to the Australian market, focusing on cost-effective channels and compelling messaging. 2 Strategic Approach: · Targeted Audience Selection: Conducting thorough market research, identified the target audience – men aged 25-45 interested in premium grooming products. · Utilized audience segmentation to create personalized ad content for specific demographics. 3 Compelling Ad Creatives: Developed visually appealing and persuasive ad creatives showcasing The Grooming Lab Co's flagship product, a premium grooming maintenance kit priced at 110 AUD. Implemented Broad testing to refine ad visuals, emphasizing the product's unique selling points and benefits. 4 Strategic Platform Selection: Leveraged the power of Tiktok, recognizing the platforms' popularity among the target demographic in Australia. Carefully selected ad placements to maximize visibility and engagement. 5 Execution and Optimization: 5.1 Budget Allocation: Distributed the modest budget effectively across the campaign, focusing on high-performing ad sets. Monitored ad spend closely to ensure optimal utilization and cost-efficiency. 6 Continuous Monitoring and Optimization: Implemented real-time monitoring of campaign performance, adjusting targeting parameters and ad creatives based on data insights. Employed data analytics tools to identify high-converting demographics and refine the campaign strategy accordingly. 7 Results: Meticulous efforts and strategic approach yielded exceptional results: Conversions: Two high-value conversions achieved with a total value of almost 220 AUD.

FIRST CHOICE. I built an FMCG Sales foundation in an incredible global snacking business. At the time the business was an underdog in the Australian market motivated by a simple mantra: ‘first choice’. Becoming first choice was a pan-organisational goal focused on winning with consumers and customers. In my capacity (field sales), I learned early that competitive advantage in samey categories could be gained through service excellence, specifically: having intent, being available, urgent, highly communicative and fostering partnerships. The measure? Getting the phone call first. Entering the crowded room of recruitment, this same philosophy underpinned our approach to getting established and achieving cut through. Our mantra was (and still is) ‘inspired to deliver a new standard’. After almost thirteen years, I can honestly say nothing has changed. We remain inspired, we continue to deliver a high standard and enjoy being ‘first choice’ to many employers and professionals. To all who have engaged and partnered with us over the years, thanks as always for having us. Equally, if you’re looking to engage a trusted, highly regarded and pinpoint accurate recruitment/search partner, look no further. Yours in (recruitment) service excellence, Steve Ward with Emma Ward Core Element | Executive Recruitment Partners

Should brands do good? 96% of Aussies think so 🤔 Earlier this year, Leo Burnett released their “What Good is Doing Good?” report in collaboration with The UTS Business School and Zenith Media. The report found that 96% of Aussies believe it’s important for brands to be doing some form of good in the world. So, does that mean brands should be rushing to ingrain some form of social, environmental or political cause into their overall strategy if they don’t already? Definitely not! Consumers gravitate towards brand authenticity. The report also supports this. Adjusting your strategy to revolve around something that your brand doesn’t actually believe in - consumers see straight through it. Not a good look. I personally believe it’s important for brands to strive to do good, especially on an environmental, social and staff well-being front - even better if it’s genuinely at their core. But don’t go fakin’ it. Greenwashing… no thanks. Here’s the thing about doing good though. The report found that 90% of Aussies believe a brand is good if it treats people respectfully and fairly, and has positive financial integrity. This encompasses: → Treating staff & the public with respect → Paying employees and suppliers fairly → Providing stable and fair employment → Paying the appropriate taxes So if brands are already doing the basics of business right, which they should be, they’re already perceived to be doing good. ~~~~~~~~~~ Want to see more thoughts, insights and advice on branding and marketing? Ok, confession time. H1 was scary. Moments of doubt, countless what-ifs, and 100 million reasons why this wouldn't work. But at the top of it all, there was you. You made me better, stronger, and whatever the rest of that Daft Punk track is. I worked with many of you and felt nothing but continuous love and support. Vibed with some, didn’t see eye to eye with others, but skillshift wouldn’t be here today without all of it. Thank you for putting your trust in me and the team. skillshift (yes, all lowercase; yes, it’s one of those brands; get over it) is growing. We’re working on the first pay-as-you-go enterprise SEO platform, revolutionizing the world of marketplaces, and offering enterprise-grade consulting services at a fraction of the cost. Yes, I'll have a coffee with you and tell you more about it.

🔥 THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BRAND PERFORMANCE!!!!🔥 Once again, what a powerful piece by Mark Ritson. I could not agree more with him on this and the perfect example has been give with ANZ. ANZ just schooled us all here and the uncomfortable truth that has been uncovered: 1. Trying to build brand and drive sales in the same ad? You're failing at both. 2. "Brand performance" or "performance branding" isn't the silver bullet you think it is. ANZ's CMO Astrud Burgess essentially ditched the industry kool-aid and split their strategy into two: 1. Emotional, long-term brand campaigns (It is perfect with the Sharmas 🙌 ) 2. Rational, targeted product ads Result? Skyrocketing brand health AND commercial performance. (what we all want) 🤔 Ask yourself: 1. Are you sacrificing long-term brand health for short-term gains? 2. Is your "integrated" approach actually watering down your message? The hard truth is that: Your obsession with immediate ROI is setting you up for future failure. Short-term performance marketing alone is a ticking time bomb for your brand. Les Binet and Peter Field were always right. Agree? Disagree? Let's debate. Share your thoughts below! #BrandBuilding #PerformanceMarketing

I've had a fantastic morning (and way too much coffee) at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, meeting some new leaders in the space and also catching up with some familiar faces from last year. I also had the pleasure of attending the MICE educating area where Leon Kennedy (The Mulberry Group) and Kai Ogura (Market Lane Coffee) gave advise on how they initiate Attracting and Retaining Talent. It was an honest and frank view of the hospitality and sales market and also highlighted that employee feedback is crucial for fostering a positive work environment and driving continuous improvement. It provides valuable insights into employee satisfaction, engagement levels, and areas for growth within the organisation. To make the most of this feedback, it's essential to listen actively, acknowledge the input received, take actionable steps to address concerns or suggestions, and regularly communicate progress back to employees. This iterative process not only boosts morale but also enhances productivity and overall success.

Bonza, the relatively new Australian low-cost Airline that started at the beginning of 2023 has gone into voluntary administration. AKA they've shut down. Bonza’s failures offers critical lessons for brands venturing into new markets or launching innovative products. Here are some insights into what went wrong and how things might have been turned around from a business and marketing perspective: 👉 Market Research: It appears there may have been gaps in understanding market demand or operational readiness. 👉 Customer Expectations: Aligning the launch with consumer expectations and operational capabilities is crucial. 👉 Communication Strategy: Effective communication about what new services offer and ensuring the operations can deliver on those promises from day one is vital. Bonza’s journey, while ambitious, stumbled, underscoring the necessity of robust market research and customer understanding before launching. For marketers, this tale serves as an important reminder of the importance of aligning product offerings with clear consumer demand. In a time where consumer expectations are high and patience is low, the ability to deliver on promises from day one is more crucial than ever. #businessstrategy #marketingtips #customerengagement #digitalmarketing #bonza #sydneydigitalmarketing

The best marketing campaigns are those that evolve into a habit for consumers. It's not just about capturing attention; it's about becoming a trusted part of their everyday lives. 🛒❤️ 🔍Insight: Regular engagement and genuine connections build lasting consumer habits. 🏆 What makes this one of the strongest performing ads we've ever tested? 🇳🇿 Not just in its native market of New Zealand, but globally? 🌐 🔨 The ad, from home improvement retailer Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited is not trying to do everything, instead it's understated perfection. Delivering incredibly to a handful of the all important creative success factors - ✅ Storytelling - It's a simple narrative, but you cannot help but get caught up in the story of the clueless customer's DIY project and the budding friendship with the Mitre 10 team member. ✅ Emotion - It's a story and friendship between two quite different characters that unquestionably stirs a level of emotion and empathy. Two people brought together by a common goal. ✅ Characters - The story, by focussing on a central protagonist, who is easy to warm to, ensures us as the viewers are brought onside. ✅ Brand Hero - Mitre 10 is the facilitator of everything positive mentioned above - the brand isn't being rammed down our throats, but unquestionably is the hero of the story that allows the friendship (and deck) to build. ✅ Music - And of course, with a soundtrack ('You & Me' by The Wannadies) and lyrics that perfectly match the tone and theme, it's all wrapped up in a highly emotionally appealing package. It's one of my all time favourites, and by performing in the top few % of our database, it's always nice when the broader population agrees. 😀 If you're keen to learn more about this absolute star performer, take a read - https://lnkd.in/e7wyt2gs

Times are tough for most retail brands, here in Australia. I respect @radicalyes and their founder Kerryn Moscicki and her Director of Marketing so much...you know why? They have a motto. It goes like this "Always keep the lights on". Hence why the team and I are still running fairly intensive Google Ads, Meta Ads, and Email Marketing campaigns pushing their latest drop. As their Virtual CMO, I am also supporting their advertising on the back of buses. I mean, radical, right? Love this brand, love this shot, love that it's on a bus! Keep an eye out for several stylishly radical buses all over Melbourne. ❤️ to show your respect for those founders who know that marketing is about keeping the lights on, even when it is hard to do so. #outdooradvertising #offlinemarketing #digitalstrategy #melbournebrand #footwearbrand #footwearmarketing
