Big News: Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Implementation Advisory Group Announced! The Australian Patients Association warmly welcomes the announcement of the HTA Implementation Advisory Group (IAG) members, who are set to play a pivotal role in shaping better access and affordability for health technologies in Australia. A special congratulations to Nicole Millis (CEO, Rare Voices Australia) and Kirsten Pilatti (CEO, Breast Cancer Network Australia) for their appointments as patient group representatives. Their leadership will ensure that patients’ voices remain front and centre in this critical process. The Australian Patients Association is ready to provide our support and patient network to assist. The HTA process is fundamental to determining which emerging health technologies—like new medicines and vaccines—are funded or subsidised by the government. The recent HTA review brought forward 50 recommendations ranging from streamlined access pathways to bold reforms requiring legislative changes and new investments. The IAG will spearhead efforts to review these recommendations and co-design the Government’s draft response, setting the stage for a future where Australians benefit from safe, effective, and affordable health technologies without delay. Lisa Robins, CEO of the Australian Patients Association, applauded Nicole and Kirsten’s appointments, stating: "This is an exciting step forward. Interesting read: One of the most glaring issues with the PACE system is its lack of visibility regarding participant funding. Under the previous MyPlace portal, providers could see funding allocations and make service bookings to ensure that funds were quarantined for their services. This transparency allowed providers to plan care appropriately and address funding shortfalls proactively.
