AmixTech Expands Strategic Acceleration Programme to New Zealand AmixTech Lab, the renowned technology business accelerator, is excited to announce the inclusion of New Zealand in its Strategic Acceleration Programme. This expansion aims to scale up founders, startups and companies in specialising sectors such as AgTech, WineTech, FinTech, FoodTech and ClimaTech. Spearheading this initiative is a multidisciplinary team led by Max Morales, with the support of London-based PR and business consultant Fran Bridgewater FCIM. The programme’s primary objective is to foster collaboration with New Zealand companies aiming to penetrate the Chilean and Texan markets by leveraging AmixTech’s extensive network. Another key goal is to expand AmixTech’s talent base in London, enabling the creation of bespoke strategies for business development. Strategic focuses include Dairy, High Tech, Agricultural Machinery and Wine, providing Chilean companies with access to cutting-edge innovative practices from New Zealand. AmixTech also plans to connect with New Zealand’s vibrant startup ecosystem by engaging with local incubators, accelerators and hubs to facilitate market entry into Chile and Texas. The origins of the collaboration between New Zealand and Chile can be traced back to a number of years ago when Isabel Estate participated in the Wine Salon at Colchagua Valley, organised by Max Morales, CEO of AndesWines.com. This event laid the foundations for a robust connection between the two countries. Why Chile and New Zealand? Eva Pemper, a third-generation winemaker from Croatia now leading the field in New Zealand, has received widespread acclaim for her wines in both the US and across Europe. She serves as a mentor to Max Morales and her expertise is instrumental in bridging the connections with local wine producers, fostering a new phase of technological exchange based on the climatic and soil similarities between the two countries. Max Morales, who has 23 years of experience in the re-establishment of old vineyards in Chile, recently concluded the ‘Wine Innova Tech 2024’ seminar series at the Palacio Rioja in Viña del Mar. Supported by the Regional Productive Development Committee of Valparaíso through the Viraliza CORFO program, this initiative aims to boost the creation of the WineTech Investment Fund. Another paper worth bookmarking - this time from our friends at UNSW Climate Change Research Centre. How many times have you heard it's going to be a #lanina summer and so expect rain and floods? Or it's #elnino so expect bushfires. There is a tendency to collapse #climatevariability down to a set of simple descriptors (especially when they have memorable names like El Nino). This study lifts the lid on just how useful these descriptors ("modes of climate variability") are for #rainfall. Turns out in many locations, not very. Only 1 % of the land surface has over half of its rainfall variability explainable by climate modes. The Australian grocery retail sector is an interesting case of market power playing out, across multiple dimensions. Pricing power of retailers is a clear concern, as is misleading or deceptive price discount marketing. Procurement power of retailers, to squeeze suppliers is a clear concern. This has been a frequent complaint with little done over the years. Barriers to entry through exploitation of land use regulations is an area of concern. Indeed, land use regulations have consistently acted as brakes on market competition across multiple sectors. The elephant in the room ultimately is structural concentration. #marketpower #supplychains

It was a privilege to attend the Motor Accidents Insurance Schemes Queensland #InnovationDay last week, where we delved deeply into the realms of #AI, #culture, #innovation, and #leadership. I was impressed by the tangible value MAISQ and NIISQ are deriving from their investments in these key areas. Some of the standout discussion points included: 💬 AI adoption can't wait for executive buy-in; it requires proactive, personal commitment from leaders to secure long-term success. 💬 The "test and learn" approach is essential, but it must be guided by prioritised human-centered use cases that deliver real value to end users. 💬 Define success metrics that drive timely deployments - two-year test & learn cycles are unlikely to yield a viable return on investment. 💬 Foster regular communication across the organisation; knowledge won’t simply spread by osmosis. Teams pioneering AI should create learning that extends beyond their program, building broader organisational understanding. 💬 Go on Safari! We’ve analysed 10 years of data to map the flow of investment. Key takeaways: 💰 Australian investors have helped Asian startups raise $23.8B over the last 10 years. Capital raised fluctuated in line with global investment trends. 😎 Australian investors were lead for an impressive 40% of transactions, though this dropped in 2021 and 2022, suggesting the importance of personal connections. 🌱 60% of transactions were in seed and early stage funding, indicating Australian investors are playing a crucial role in commercialising innovation in Asia. 77% of investments were by VCs. 💥 Consumer & B2C is the most popular industry for Australian investment in Asian startups, receiving 35% of investment. This aligns with the growth potential of Asia’s middle class. 🗺 Singapore was the top investment destination by number of transactions, followed by China and India.
