Australian organisations experience data breaches at a rate almost 50% higher than the global average.   The latest #RubrikZeroLabs findings, covered here by TechRepublic, highlight that organisations are placing too much faith in their perimeter defences.   Motivated attackers are breaching traditional defences. As such, organisations need to plan ahead for when that happens.   This means accepting breaches are inevitable and adopting an ‘assumed breach mindset’. Earlier this month Google Cloud accidentally deleted a major customer account, UniSuper, a prominent Australian pension fund managing over $135 billion. This incident wiped out all backups stored on the service and disrupted UniSuper's operations for two weeks. Luckily UniSuper managed to recover some of the data through a third-party provider, the incident underscores the importance of third-party backups in ensuring business continuity, especially in the face of unforeseen events. What can be learned from Google Cloud's mishap? 🛡️Backup Redundancy: Relying solely on one cloud provider for backups poses a significant risk.
