The start-up eco-system in India is huge. Start-ups in cities with populations the size of Australia's are seeking investors and, most importantly collaborators for research, data monetization and exposure. In a small space in Bengaluru there are hundreds, if not thousands, of businesses in medtech alone. Many start-ups protect themselves too much, what offers the big leap forward is strategic collaborations, not simply money. Ideas generate rewards because more ideas lead to better innovation. Investment only leads, potentially, to doing more of the same without the benefit of challenging what we are already doing. Challenging 'conventional wisdom' is as important in the start-up world as it is in the established world, because 'wisdom' can always be challenged. Commerce between Australia and India is on the upswing thanks to a trade agreement between the two countries that kicked in about a year-and-a-half ago. The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement eliminated tariffs on 85% of Australia’s exports to India, and 96% of Indian exports to Australia.   This is a boon for Queensland, which accounts for about 75% of Australia’s total goods exports to India. In fact, Queensland exports to India doubled between 2018 and last year, reaching $21.8 billion.   Trade and Investment Queensland has a five-year plan to build on these successes: We now have two trade offices in India to help foster relationships and facilitate deals. We see opportunities in the convergence of India’s development path and Queensland’s strengths, including agribusiness, green energy, mining, and biomedical sciences, to name a few target sectors.   India already is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by the end of this decade, so it’s not hard to see why Australians are so eager to do business there. NDIS—a grand idea turned #corporate jungle. Isn’t it fascinating how a program meant to empower PWD is now strangling itself with the very red tape it was supposed to cut? Operationalization of NDIS as a large-scale, government-administered scheme & its original intent to provide an INDEPENDENT body, that was person-centered & offered choice & control, flexible support & that upholds the human rights of participants. Here’s how NDIA is over-relying on economic, business, governance, & change management theories & the consequences. Efficiency Over Humanity Prioritizes efficiency, cost-effectiveness & scalability. What’s more important? Helping people live dignified lives or squeezing every dollar like it’s your last drop of water in a desert? NDIS seems to think it’s the latter. #Commodification of Support. We’re treating human care like a supermarket, where the cheapest loaf of bread wins. If you’re gluten-free, well, tough luck—your needs just aren’t cost-effective. Treating support services as products to be managed, optimized & budgeted. Governance Gone Wild Top-Down Tyranny: Let’s impose rules from above because, clearly, the suits know best. They’re so in tune with what’s happening on the ground, right? Who needs flexibility when you can have rigid guidelines that make it impossible for participants to actually get the support they need? Centralization because what better way to handle diverse, individual needs than with a one-size-fits-all solution? Human Rights? What Are Those The Great Erosion: We’re talking about the rights of people, not the latest budget spreadsheet. But let’s keep focusing on the numbers while we conveniently forget about autonomy & dignity. After all, who needs dignity when you’ve got a cost-benefit analysis to meet? Betraying the Vision From Empowerment to Entrapment: NDIS was meant to empower people, not make them jump through bureaucratic hoops. Like building a shiny new car, only to realize you forgot the steering wheel. Participants aren’t just frustrated—they’re probably wondering if the whole thing is some kind of twisted social experiment to see how much red tape they can navigate before they give up Time for a Reality Check Flip the Script: Let’s get back to the original script—person-centered care. You know, the whole point of NDIS? Let’s make it about people again, not just efficiency, and for the love of all that’s sacred, let’s bring flexibility back into the mix. Or do we really want to keep pretending that rigid, top-down governance somehow serves the people it was supposed to empower? We’re at a crossroads. Do we continue down the path of turning #NDIS into a bureaucratic mess that’s more about ticking boxes than changing lives? Or do we hit the brakes, reverse course, and put the focus back where it belongs—on the people who need support, not the system that’s supposed to provide it? The choice is clear, but then again, so is the irony of a system designed to help, now in need of help itself

Leadership Challenges in the Small Scale Sector - An old article but most of the problems/issues/grievances remain the same. Not only the Govt and bureaucracy DOES NOT respond adequately and empathetically, what is worse is that neither do the MSME owners/entrepreneurs make any meaningful attempt to change and upgrade themselves and improve in the Soft Skills area which is crucial if you want to become WORLD CLASS. Even today, production, despatch and dues collection remain the primary focus and occupation of most entrepreneurs. It is rare to see them focussed on a) improved Production Planning, b) managing with lower inventory, c) focussing on quality d) ensuring proper and timely Machine Maintenance e) adopting World Class Manufacturing practices f) investing in training for themselves and their employees The above are still treated, largely, as costs rather than investments. The images from Bandra station, now flooded with desperate passengers, bring back haunting memories of the migrant crisis during the COVID-19 lockdown. It is distressing to see once again how insufficient infrastructure and lack of planning have reduced people to mere statistics. The heart-wrenching stampede at Bandra this week is not just an unfortunate accident—it reflects deeper systemic issues that need urgent redressal. During the pandemic, we saw migrants (from Bihar and other states) walking hundreds of kilometres, abandoned by the very system that was meant to protect them. Their stories of agony were etched into our collective consciousness—fathers carrying toddlers on their shoulders, mothers rationing the last drops of water, and workers dying on the tracks in search of home. Back then, it was easy to assume that such pain would serve as a wake-up call. But as we stand today, witnessing overcrowded stations and another preventable crisis unfold, the question remains: Have we truly learned anything from the past? The recent measures announced by the railways—additional coaches, separate ticket counters, and enhanced security—are certainly necessary. But they are reactive solutions to systemic problems. Unless we address the root causes, these measures will merely serve as band-aids on a festering wound. The migrant crisis of 2020 exposed how precarious the lives of unskilled labourers are—displaced from their homes and yet invisible in cities. If the pandemic taught us anything, it was the importance of dignity, mobility, and safety for every citizen. We need a comprehensive policy framework—one that: - Balances urban and rural development, creating jobs closer to home. - Strengthens public infrastructure and safety protocols proactively, not reactively. - Acknowledges the humanity of every worker, commuter, and citisen, ensuring they are not reduced to collateral damage in development stories. It is time we act with foresight, not just firefighting measures. The events at Bandra are a reminder that unless we plan better and care more, the lessons from 2020 will have been in vain.
